I haven't upgraded to Mavericks yet since I read it slows down laptops. Yet another reason to not upgrade. Thanks for the heads up mrspeakers! a_recording was also having issues with the ODAC via Mavericks...

Thanks for noting the laptop slowdown issue miceblue!  I will make sure to steer clear of the update for my wife's macbook pro.  She could care less about audio, but god knows I would never hear the end of it if I caused her machine to lag!

No issues on my Centrance Hifi-m8 with Mavericks.

Mind telling us how that thing pairs with Alpha Dogs?

It pairs really well with the Mad Dogs. I did not get a chance to try it with the ADs, but my expectation is for an excellent pairing. @mikemercer has both and speaks favorably of the pairing. I'd also love to hear from others.

I am thinking once many members get their AlphaDogs we will realize they respond very much to input source as I herd it from herd it from 3 types of setups my portable amp (Continemtal V2) and a solid state setup and Dans tube setup and then another members littledot and I have to say all the tube gear made a noticable difference for the better.
My portable setup wich lacked decisive power also sounded very well.
So basically what I am leading to is that there will be a varied range of comments I feel will be due to setup...
Anyway thats my guess.

Silly question: is the wiring or sound between the single end cable and the XLR version with the single end adapter different?  I need the XLR cable for my M8 anyway, but I am debating whether to get another cable or just an adapter.  Thanks.

FYI, we're starting to ship orders placed 9/25 today.  We're holding at about 7 weeks delivery.

Um, it could be a while.  We also will be starting upgrades, almost certainly in January.

It's a contentious issue, but generally balanced is accepted to sound microscopically better.

EDIT: I didn't read the question as thoroughly as I should've

This I understand, but was just asking will it make more sense to get the stock single end cable instead of getting an adapter for the XLR cable.  Remember need the XLR cable for my M8 (still pending), I am just worry about changing cable from the plug end vs. from the headphone end.

If you have a balanced output on your amp, you should be using the xlr cable and getting an single ended adapter. So the other way around, otherwise there is no point for having a balanced amp in the first place.

Man, nobody is quite understanding his question. He wants to know if he should buy an additional single ended cable from Mr. Speaker to use for single ended amps when not using his balanced amp, or should he just get an adapter for xlr to SE. I'd probably say you are ok sonically with just a good adapter, though its kind of a hot button issue. Plus if you get the additional cable its less bulk hanging around your source which is always nice especially if you are using something portable.

Buy the balanced terminated cable and use a SE adapter. There should be no difference in sound quality between using adapter or have one cable - unless the adapter is made with different (cheap) materials.
