I had a long listen with AD and T1's. To my ears, the AD was more enjoyable with every genre I played.

OK! I've read through all 253 pages of this thread! (I know sad huh), man it was a minefield and my eyes are bleeding. There are some nuggets of good info in there amongst PAGES of OT stuff.

So to aid those who are new to the thread and just want to read only the good stuff (no offense to anyone) I have created a summary with links to all the impressions and reviews including some vital information. In rough order of appearance except when grouping reviews from same person. Sorry if I missed anyone's reviews, it was a LOOOONG thread...

Enjoy!

Really?

I wanted to buy a T1.  I should try a AD first.

Thanks your your writeup Oregonian. I enjoyed reading it.

I have a d2k. I apologize if this has been asked before, but it would seem from your response above that the bass response is lower in the Alpha Dog compared to the Denon series. Is this true?

Yes, it is lower in the Alpha but not by as much as I thought it would be.  Very capable in the bass department with a vintage amp feeding it good power.

A quick shipping update: we had a paint issue this week and not as many phones have been produced as planned.  The phones are ready to go as soon as the cups are in and we believe we've addressed the issue to get more parts through paint.  I'm pretty confident we will be shipping a lot of Alpha Dogs on Tuesday and Friday of next week.  As of today we're shipping orders through Sept 9 and by the end of next week we should be shipping orders placed up to around Sept 20.  By the end of next week I really hope to be very close to our six week commitment.

Our apologies for the extra bit of wait, but I wouldn't want to ship phones that aren't up to snuff.

It's my turn on the AD tour, and I just took a moment to give them a brief listen. Just in terms of sound, my impressions so far are fairly good. I will have more to say later on what they do well, how they compare to the Mad Dog and HE-500, and so on once I get more time with them. However, you might have read others saying the treble could be a bit hard/harsh/bright. I have certainly noticed that on this AD. EQing down around 5.5-6KHz and 10KHz makes a noticeable, positive difference in the overall smoothness and cohesiveness of the sound.

Keeping personal tastes and the music I listen to in mind (ex: metal, like Opeth), I think most would not have a problem with this. And it's certainly not a big deal. The HE-500 (currently with Jergpads) can be a bit strong around 8-10KHz, and I often found myself wanting to EQ the T50RP in any state. Even the Mad Dog could be a bit harsh in the treble despite being relatively laid-back. I do think the AD might be the most "problematic" in terms of treble out, say, the Mad Dog, Paradox, or HE-500, though. I know many mod the HD800 due to treble elevation and hardness issues.

I am definitely enjoying them quite a bit with some EQ, and the presentation of the product overall outside of its sound is excellent. More to come later.

@Lillee that's kind of you to gather these information in one place. Wish that Jude have these links included in the first post.
