Well I was specifying the notion that Koiloco asked if Matt had HE500 with the latest Jergpads for comparison against the Alpha Dogs, but Matt is basing upon his experience of HE500s without. So there is a discrepancy.

To me, better than HE-500 is a strong statement. As it performs on insane levels on my current rig. If that's true I would be amazed/excited/happy and keep the AD and sell both the HE-500 and LCD-2 and become a crazy fan boy of the Alpha Dogs.

Anyone listen to Chillstep, deep house, mellow-rnb electronic type music? I would be very interested to know (especially if you have the mad dogs as well), how these two songs sound on both?

Bass is about perfect, really. All that needs to be said has been said; great linearity and authority with a slight but nice rumble. Everything from bass-cannon music like Emptyset to hyper-speed double-bass on death metal is satisfactory clear, and thus, visceral. Melodic bass is also very distinct.

Mid-range is pretty darn neutral, but most importantly coming from the 3.0's, don't have any of that "smooshiness" or "fogginess" that plagued earlier models. Balance between all ranges has been found, really.

Treble has that slight sparkle missing from earlier Mad Dog iterations, and is truly neutral. Haven't had any experience of sibilance with my whole day of listening, and no fatigue, really. I think it's definitely approaching summit-fi territory, as its neutrality is comparable to my HE-6's.

That being said, there is a sort of a rough qualia that makes these sound less refined than my HE-6. Additionally, my HE-6 (obviously) sounds more open than the AD's, but the AD doesn't feel closed in either. To be more precise, switching between the HE-6 and AD definitely reveals the AD's undeniable closed nature But spending time with the AD for a while without switching dials back that feeling.

great !

any diff betw your asgard2 n emotiva powering the AD?

That'd be great if you could try the song 'Deliverance' from Opeth.

Thanks in advance.

I for one will definitely have that song on my list, as well as Blackwater Park, and probably all of Still Life.  Great choice!

Earpads affect the sound signature of headphones only second to the drivers themselves. "Pad-fi" is totally valid, check the jergpad thread first post for the very recent comprehensive measurements of the latest revision of the mod on HE500, and analyses of these measurements.

I don't know where you can borrow a pair of them to try. Modulor already cut off the orders for the October batch of Jergpads he's about to make. Maybe if you go to a meet later this year you could run into another Head-fier who has a pair of Modulor Jergpads?
