Right now I have hd650, MD and Sony ma900. I know, I know...you feel bad for me. I make it through though, somehow.

Neck problems?  I have spinal stenosis in my C3/4 area that is to put it mildly awful.  Pain constantly but headphones don't seem to bother me.............tho I will stay away from Audeze models from what I have heard about their weight.   If you are fighting a neck issue I empathize with you..............

So the AD is that much heavier than the MD?

I posted the weight a couple times.

MD is about 385 grams

AD is about 450 grams

This will hardly be noticeable to most people.

People (lots of people) need to stop saying Ortho, as that's a Yamaha term for it.

Just saying. tongue.gif

Like calling Motion Interpolation on HDTV 'Motionflow.'. That's Sony speak.

These are minor pet peeves of mine. Lol.

Like 'Retina Display' for high resolution...

Right. Someone hand me a facial tissue!

*cough cough*

I converted my Alpha Dogs to wireless...    man.. I love these phones

Uncompressed wireless at that...  and they sound fantastic...

Here's how I did it...

Fiio has a 2.4g transmitter/receiver that broadcasts in uncompressed format.. its called the Fiio W1

http://www.fiio.com.cn/products/index.aspx?ID=100000048596648&MenuID=105026003

I put the transmitter on my OPPO and on the headphone side I'm using the W1r with an O2 amp plugged into the Alpha Dogs...

listening to the Moody Blues Seventh Sojourn right now... :gs1000smile:

Not only pics but explain how it's wireless if you plug in your AD's?

If you mean wireless from source Audioengine has been doing that for a few years.  Have two of their transmitters and love the portability.  Even more portable than FiiO.

http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Audioengine-W2 - $49 gets you set up with a transmitter and receiver.

How much is the FiiO solution?

Wow! good to know that.  I am selling my HE500 then.  AD must be the best ortho HPs to date.  It could be better than the Abyss too for sure. :gs1000smile:

Remember that everyone's ears are physically different, everyone's experience of music is different, everyone's taste in music is different.

In fact, it is clear that MattTCG understands this, hence the 121 headphone trades in one year or so.  He realizes that he needs to see if a particular headphone (or amp) is right for his particular tastes.  This is because each pair of headphones has strong points and weak points.

So, don't take any one person's opinion - even if you find them reputable.

20% more seems like it would be noticeable.   The AD cables were heavier than the MD cables, so it might be more like 25%.   IIRC, the HE-500 to HE-400 difference is similar...

Yes as a general rule of thumb that human can detect changes when it is over 10%, so an increase of weight by 20% is definitely noticeable.

Don't forget that's HE500s without Jergpads which Matt is judging from, which is a pretty significant step down from how it sounds with the modifications.
