I have the MD's and been researching on portable players as well.  Let me know what you've decided on, that might help me decide as well...

That's not you, it's the forum. I'm getting the same error every once in awhile.

I'm waiting pre orders of both AD and HifiM8.. sitting here with nothin!

looking forward to hearing feedback on that combo if any early adopters have it. I am hoping it will be good

I have an ak100.
Just about to try the tralucent t1 but I am almost certain it will be underpowered.
Failing that I am deciding between the sr71b, alo mk3 or as a last resort ibasso pb2.

Waiting on the same combo! I have to wait for MD to AD conversion though. According to HifiM8 blog, they are about done with all the pre-orders.

Bear in mind, I love the HD650, but comparing it's soundstage to anything remotely open/airy, the 650 is not gonna hold up.

Back to the AD, if the soundstage is comparable to the HD650, that's great...for a closed can. If it's bigger...then I'll be happy with the size.

If that was replying to my post.... You can see the headphones I have owned in my profile.... But yes I have not tried that many high end open headphones, I have tried some more in shops etc. The HD650 to me had the "3 blob soundstage" where it is sort of left and right and then seems like the sound is in your head in the middle... So maybe that is what you mean, anyway I would not exactly describe the HD650 as at all closed sounding and to me they sounded quite realistic with films and stuff. I would personally describe them as realistic and open sounding, although they do not have much treble. Anyway this is not related to the AD so sorry about that....

I am interested in the AD.... But I would like to know if they can be tuned to have "basshead" levels of bass using the bass port, similar to HE400, I would not want less than that..... Something with better midrange and treble than the HE400 would be good though...

Oh, I don't think the 650 is closed sounding. I just mean that next to a lot of open cans, it's not really going to compare. It's still open sounding next to every closed headphone I've heard.

I'd classify the soundstage as decent overall.

If I had to describe the hd650 in one word I would say intimate.

I agree with that description. Same can be said about the LCD2. Both open headphones with an intimate soundstage, but both still open next to closed headphones.

It was interesting to hear another members impressions, groovyvd, yesterday. He was primarily using Beyer T1 and T5 for most of his listening. I was not expecting him to react quite so well to the AD given the brighter signature of the Beyers. Ultimately he really seems to enjoy them and plans to order them I believe.

I'll add the Woo wa7 as a very nice pairing for the AD and MD. Fantastic amp/dac!!

Would love to buy the wa7 if it weren't for the fact I don't trust leaving it at work and I would have to transport it daily.
Very nice looking piece of kit on a desk.
Never actually heard one though.
Limited possibilities where I live.
Pretty much all beats or Sol republic etc brands.
Ones people were as necklaces more than headphones.
Oh well back on topic, bring on my upgrade smily_headphones1.gif

Can you have TOO MUCH FUN with the Alpha Dogs???

I converted my Alpha Dogs to wireless...    man.. I love these phones

Uncompressed wireless at that...  and they sound fantastic...

Here's how I did it...

Fiio has a 2.4g transmitter/receiver that broadcasts in uncompressed format.. its called the Fiio W1

http://www.fiio.com.cn/products/index.aspx?ID=100000048596648&MenuID=105026003

I put the transmitter on my OPPO and on the headphone side I'm using the W1r with an O2 amp plugged into the Alpha Dogs...

listening to the Moody Blues Seventh Sojourn right now... :gs1000smile:
