So the review/demo will have to wait.

I would rather wait until I have some decent equipment to push the AD properly before I review it. I think it's only fair. I had a less than optimal first experience with the Mad Dogs the first time (the first pair didn't sit on my head quite right), to the point that I had to re-write my Mad Dog review once Dan sent me the second pair. I don't wanna half ass it with the AD.

Good man, MLE.

Wow, thanks. Just one problem though. I suck at EQ'ing... Maybe I should just leave it off/flat. Thanks though Bleak!

I'm thrilled to put them through my vintage Pioneer Spec system, giving it all the power it needs. Cannot wait to hear them.........

Thanks Dan........

You'll be in fine form with the vintage gear and the AD which seem to love the power of the old steel.

Will do! Just one quick question, does wasapi increase sound quality? Or does it just mute all over sounds?

Has anyone here heard the Mad Dog w/ the Objective2?! The combo is stellar. Fantastic detail, black background, grainless... and bass slam when called for! I'm not an O2 fanboy, really. It's really competent though. Sure, I'd like to compare with something with more juice. But the Mad Dog is not that hard to drive. I'd be happy to send MrSpeakers an O2 if he'd like to compare it with his other amps, if he hasn't heard one. I'm just saying that the combo was good enough for me to sell everything, buy a Mad Dog 3.2 and now preorder an Alpha Dog.

Before I get flamed, I can neither confirm or deny that another $200 or $500 toward an amp would make it better. Its very possible. But buy a cheap, quality amp, people, and be blown away!

This applies to the O2/ODAC as well as vintage gear. You don't need to shell out too much to truly enjoy the MD, and the same will probably apply for the AD. I have Benchmark DAC1 and an Auditor, but I still find that a simple ODAC/SX750 setup (which runs maybe $350 to $500 in total) blows me away nonetheless with the MD and ESP950.

To my ears, my EE Minimax with O2 amp sounded not much better than pairing the MDs with Fiio X3 DAP, you save quite a bit of money and on top of that, it is more portable smily_headphones1.gif Neither blow me away anyway tongue.gif

What about directly out from the iPod Classic? The iPod Classic has quite a powerful amp.

I've tried my friends Mad Dogs with Dog Pads with his 02/ODAC in Australia about 1 and a half - 2 months ago and I did not like it at all... It had great detail and soundstage but it was way too neutral for me, I like a warmer sound with a little more bass impact.

I'll try out the Alpha Dog straight out of an iPod Video 5G.

I also have an ODAC and Objective 2 so I can test that out as well.

Those are the 2.0 version of Mad Dogs, there have been three revisions since then and the last revision added more bass quantity and quality.

Will do! Just one quick question, does wasapi increase sound quality? Or does it just mute all over sounds?

WASAPI is part of Microsoft Windows starting with Vista.   Prior to Vista, music players often had a "kernel streaming" output that used the WDM drivers to connect directly to the hardware.   WASAPI is simply a built-in way to do the same thing.   However, in typical Microsoft fashion, it is over-engineered and contains a lot of stuff that can cause problems (depending on your setup).

Meanwhile, a musical instrument company created ASIO, which connect to hardware in Windows both for playback and for recording.  Most audiophiles still consider this the best sound option, especially if your DAC has ASIO drivers.   If not, you can download and use a free program "ASIO4ALL", which connects the software player's ASIO support to the kernel, in a fashion similar to WASAPI, but without the over-engineering.

That's as far as I can go without being excessively off-topic...

Madlust,

I have a magni amp sitting around collecting dust--if you want to borrow it for the testing, you are more than welcome

I know ,I know--this is not the ideal amp,but it worked fine for  my MD's,& I think,it will but in the same  ball park for testing purposes

If interested,PM me,& I'll stick in the mail-OK?

At least, you can get the feel of the AD's,& see the new wine cups.

Mike
