It's powerful - hell, it's a speaker amp.  Some what neutral, a tab bit on the bright side also a bit on the aggressive side as well.  The only reason for me getting the amp was for the MDs / Ads..

Yes, there's much better choices out there.  Then again, not many better choices out there for $180.  IMO..

I had an emotiva as well. I really liked it. After selling (biggest sale regret) it I was thinking about getting an asgard 2 for the AD's but I hear its not the most detailed. I wonder if I should repurchase the emotive but it takes up a lot of desk real-estate.

It made my modded t50 sing. Would you go for that or a lyr and modi (later upgrading to bifrost) or get a bifrost and an emotiva mini. Im kinda hoping for better SQ than the emotiva but still keep a budget. I was also thinking an audio gd option.

I dunno.

I used it exclusively to drive my HE-6's --got wonderful results

Imack---you should definetly try it
Even after owning the taboo at 10x the price of the emotive, I appreciate the SQ from the emotive even more. For $190, it's incredible with he500.

With my HD700 I prefer Bifrost over NFB 11.32 when paired with Lyr

Didn't say I liked it better..

The emotiva cost me something like $120.00 & I bought it just to power the he-6's

Now,I have the Taboo, which is in another category..I prefer tube amps now that I have the HD800 ,& the Octave Dac.

A whole different flavor.

Well, the emotiva is great for what I use it for.  If you need it for any other headphones outside of hard to drive ones I would look else where.  It's great for a sub $200 amp.  It also lets you put a little more money on your DAC - The Ciunas, Octave mk2 and a few others will tame the brightness of the Emo pretty well.

Emotiva is insanely awesome with the HE-500, and is also very good with the LCD-2. Straight from speaker taps without annetuators or anything. I think the Hifiman benefits more from it. I consider it be neutral, much more so than the Schiit or Fiio stuff I've owned in the past, which were too dark. The bass and Treble are explosive on it--the dynamics are great along with the extension on both ends. Also surprisingly transparent and retrieves a decent amount of details.

I look forward to using it with the Alpha Dog. I think it was my mistake to not have this amp back in April to try with my Mad Dog 3.1. I might have kept it otherwise.

So you are saying that the lyr is darker than the emotiva? hmm what about bass. I didnt find the emotiva dark at all it made the headphones open up.

Well i do find the t50 mods hard to drive. I just was thinking of getting a different flavor as opposed to repurchasing the emotiva. It made my hd650 and t50mod sing really well.

If the schiit stuff is darker then skip it Id rather have the emotiva. DANG IT THERE GOES MY DESK SPACE... not fully determined yet though.

I keep trying to decide between the SEX and the emotiva for my he-500s. Any impressions with the SEX? Would the money and time be worth the SEX over the emotiva?

is that really the name of the amp?

I'd enjoy the LCD-2s with the mini-X more if it wasn't for the grain. Working on using the trick on the Emotiva thread to get rid of the hiss as well. That being said I do enjoy them a fair bit. Not a lot of opportunities to sit down and listen to them anymore.

Finally an amp that out-innenudos the Schiits.

The "one of a kind headphone stand - not included" is amusing...

"out-innuendos"

I love it..have to remember that one

Think Grizzly said it best--emo opens thinks up,its just there-in your face.

When I had the emo,,I tried it once or twice ,with my MD's..forgot what version it was...wasn't to impressed.

My other amp/dac ,was the Mjolnir/Gungnir ,and the MD's were perfect on them
