However, as I said, we are making a few cosmetic improvements before we ship and I'm not sharing these yet.  I'm allowed to keep a little suspense alive.  :-)

Is it a cute Hello Kitty sticker on each cup?

Umm... no the Mad Dog is not superior to the HE-500. Not even close actually.

Come on, let's lighten up on the guy. Does a single person's opinion utterly invalidate our own that easily? Perhaps we'd need to opinion our opinions harder then. He already knew the slack he was going to get for that, as you see in his disclaimer. Give him a chance, at least until he has his review out.

In fairness, if you're going to review products and be an authority in this community you have to at least get the name of the hp correct. :deadhorse:

Come on now. I was thinking about how to respond to his original comments, but now...umm...I just don't know how to respond. I'll hold my comments for now.

I'm not offended at all. I'm just stating my opinion as well.:p

I'm ready to eat my words, but personally I found the HE-500 to be several notches up the SQ ladder. I would put the HE-500 SQ above most of the headphones I've heard actually... besting top competitors like the LCD-2. Like I said, I'm interested to hear where exactly the MD is superior to the HE-500, because I can only think of a few areas where it may possibly be close.

Of course this is only my opinion, but there are plenty of people that will agree.

PS: I'd also like to know what his upstream gear is looking like. The HE-500 scalability is almost endless.

1) Opinions are like.....   Everybody has one.

2) The MD is a good headphone, after all.

3) See 1 above.

I actually can't comment knowledgeably, only glibly as above. I've had the HE500 in my hand like 3 times, and as I'm about to finally try it out, something shiny runs by, or someone else plugs into the amp or....  I STILL have not heard them.  I really want to.  From all reports, I'll like them.

Looking forward to 24Bit's review.

In fairness, we should make comparisons with the AD since this is the AD thread. :D The comparison does seem to have more weight and validity when you compare the AD to the he500. The voicing and technical abilities across the spectrum are much more comparative when talking about the AD and he500 than the MD and he500, IMO of course.

I've heard several comments about the AD bearing a resemblance in it's voicing and tone to the hd800. I can't say as I've not owned the hd800. I have owned the he500 and there are certainly aspects between these two that are similar.

hey wait a minute there buddy... there is already enough suspense here. You got people like me checking here everyday for impressions even though I know there will be none available.. I am too anxious.

I have a good question... ready...

Will you have to change your avatar pic?!?!?! or website pics

that wont ruin the suspence but add to it.

to my ears the only thing a mad dog can best an he-400 in is the mids and sibilance. If the AD is comparable to the he-500 then that is a note-worthy feat. A lot of times hype for a new headphone colors impressions. I hope the reviews are as objective as possible.
I guess thats why I wanna see pics of the  Alpha Dog at Headphonia (not so much a review).  But wanna see a review from Innerfidelity. Tyll is pretty good.

And this is the Mad Dog, to be clear.  Thanks for sharing this!

I am keeping in mind that he is comparing a closed headphone to an open design.  If the MD gets close to the HE500 in any regard, then an initial shock is to be expected.  This does nothing to quell my anticipation for the AD, in any case.

If hyperbole were a crime, more than half of Head-fi would be in jail.
