Sennheiser HD 558 and the Magni + Modi combo

I recently purchased a pair of 558s and I love them. My next investment will be in an amp and DAC. I'm leaning towards the Magni and Modi from Schiit. Does anyone have any first hand experience with these in conjunction with the 558s?

Personally I'd feel worried that the 558 can handle at max 40mW of input power. The Magni outputs 1.2 watts at 32 ohms, so at 50ohms that the 558 runs at it can be total overkill at something around 700 mW for the 558. It just means that you will have very little volume to turn on the pot for increases.

Would that would eventually damage the headphone???

The 50-Ohm HD558 are very easy to drive.

I would think the Magni/Modi is a good investment for the future, for whatever headphones you choose in the future to upgrade from the HD558s.

Maybe the Philips X1/28 Fidelio X1s?

I can't imagine it would hurt them at least to the best of my (limited) knowledge.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm really interested in trying the M&M out. Heard really nice things about them. I'm still currently only 10 or so hours into burning in this pair of 558s with little to no money for fun things, so I've got a ways ahead of me before I can drop a couple hundred on equipment, but I look forward to it.
