I totally understand what you mean.  Glad I got rid of the wax guards and went with the Sensaphonics Custom Sleeves.  They are the ultimate in keeping sweat/liquid away from the nozzles of the Shure SE846, and as you said, "nothing comes between you and the sound."

In Practice as is SHURE's Policy. No Original Sales receipt from an Authorized Dealer NO WARRENTY Period full stop.

If they were nice and "honoured" an invalid Warranty they undercut their dealer network as well as internal QC.

They will do repair for a price.

SHURE oozes CS so long as you play by one simple rule. Buy through Authorized Dealers. Otherwise it is Caveat Emptor. They care not what you pay only who you pay

I too would be interested in bass comparisons between the Shures and Senn. IE80's. I plan to get the 846's with a Forza Audioworks

Hybrid Cable,ACS custom sleeves, and paired with a Chord Hugo.A Macbook with CD/WAV files will be my source.I'm in Europe,

hence ACS for the sleeves.Thanks,C..

I'm sure they sound amazing but they also leave a big mark to the pocket. Well worth it, I'd guess.

Worth and value are subjective and personal but in a word or three you'd guess right Totally WORTH IT!

They're worth it if the blow to your wallet isn't something that will put you in any kind of budgetary turmoil. If you have to scrimp and clip coupons and eat ramen to scrape together the money for them... I'd say there are products that offer a much better price/performance ratio. But for someone who wants to just deliver the ultimate audio and has the funds to do it, these are WELL worth the investment.

That is fair comment. They are no substitute for food, shelter or heat. These are definitely a WANT. Even if you are Elon Musk they would be a WANT  - though in his case he would then just buy them without so much as a thought. (maybe a bit of hesitation because of the A.I. ...). But if they are within reach then they are a great investment. Almost no Post purchase If Only....

I actually had someone ask me why I spent so much on headphones and my answer was basically "because I could". I had the money and these appeared to be the best I could readily get my hands on and at a level of "whatever you get now is amazing so don't stress."

The law of diminishing returns is clearly present. I said it in the Overrated Headphones thread: once you hit a certain price point the exact cost isn't the issue. You're just looking for the best your money can get, and the notion of HOW much better B is than A matters less than THAT it's better. It just so happens that the SE846 is on another plane of existence over the SE535 but that's incidental.

Probably not much different than asking someone why would you buy a camera??  Doesn't your phone have one on it?

I took the plunge!  Should have my SE846's Wednesday!  If I really really like them, someone is gonna get a great deal on my W40's which are very lightly used.  Stay tuned.

Excellent point. And actually that's one which, for me, is answered by saying "I just use my phone". I'm not a shutterbug, all I need is to be able to reasonably convey a thing I'm looking at. That's a matter of personal priority and passion. All I know is that the money I've spent on headphones is chump change compared to what some have dropped on camera equipment.

Really curious to hear about the W40 comparison. Quad vs Quad, let the games begin! I will say that if you're not looking to get custom tips, the Westone tips are amazing. I'm back on the TRU-Fit foams because I'm an idiot who can't accept stupid mental barriers as being mental barriers, and the music is just godly. I can only imagine what the SCS will do.

Quad vs Quad would be interesting especially after quad vs W5 and W6 has already been done.

The ie80 and the 846 are currently two of my most used iems at the moment. 846>ie80 in bass quality. Quantity can also at times when the song calls for it. They are both great, ie80s still get a ton of play time even with the 846 in possession. I think we may have similar tastes as I also feel the ie80>ie800 anytime.

heyyy Eugguy! Thanks for your reply! And yes, we most definitely do have similar tastes because my favorite headphones (overall) are the HD8 DJ...I totally recognize you from the HD6/7/8 thread haha, just didn't realize you also had IE80/SE846's :p

This post and the hd8 post are my two favs at the moment. But I have to say...the 846 is where it is at. It beats and has beaten everything I've put close to my ears in the past few years.
