Shure SE846 Impressions Thread - Page 112

I had the 535, 535 ltd and now the 846. I also have the W4R and UE900. I still find myself enjoying the Shure house sound more. No doubt the 846 is far superior than the 535, but to my ears the bass is too "intentional", it's too bass-centric. That's what I thought when pairing them with the AK100, iPhone 5, Colorfly C4 and HM901. But then when I matched it with a Fiio X5 (first mass batch), Bingo!!! I got a coherent sound top to bottom, the sort of coherent Shure house sound that I like. The soundstage is big and the sound is now more natural, at the same time yummy. I think they are a perfect match. As much as I dislike the size and primitive UI, I ordered one right away.

I have to say that microphonics are kind of a issue to me, are cables out there that reduce this?

Yes, what is your budget? If you are willing to go at least $90 check out Headphone Lounge. Ted Allen makes some great affordable custom cables.

Here is my finished product (for now) i had to drop a little bit of WD40 into the connector on the left earphone due to the connection issues mention a while ago. i have spoken to sure and they are going to replace the left one (with a one day turnaround).

i've only just caught up with this thread and someone mentioned having an off centre sensation when listening and the response was to get them replaced, so i think thats what i'm going to do as well.

Apart front the above, they are spectacular, and i would like to that all you guys for knowing so much about it all, helping me to make an informed decision :)

Well I'm happy I guess that mine work fine, a little strange that shure is having production issues and its getting past quality control. Otherwise I like what I'm hearing.

I got to listen to the AK240 today with my 846's.  It was nothing short of amazing.  I plan on ordering the DX90 next week when its supposed to be available, hopefully their implementation of the dual sabre dac's come close to that, as the separation, sound stage and overall presentation of the sound made it hard for me to put down.  There is still no way I'm dropping that kind of cash, but I can see how they're pretty proud of that little DAP.
