Just paired my SE846 with the Onkyo DP-X1 yesterday. I have to say that these two have the best synergy. I've tried with many amps, a lot of them always sounded too harsh with the SE846. They pushed it too hard that it's unpleasant. I find that the SE846 is very sensitive and hard to pair with.

I have not tried the balanced output yet but I am kind of eager to try it out. I just need a balanced cable or a connector/converter/whatever.

Just received my JDS Labs O2 amp in 0dB/+2.5 dB configuration and RCA ins.

So my signal flow is laptop --> Oppo HA-2 Line-out --> O2.

Great stuff. Definitely an improvement over the HA-2's headphone amp section. Pitch black, more dynamic and the spatial image is better defined. Immediately impressed.

How is the iPhone 6S plus against the new DAC from Apple? (I assume it should work with the iPhone 6S plus?) Does it sound the same or is it much better with the Shure SE846?

I don't know personally but from what I've read, the output impedance of the new DAC is very low, and that's exactly what the Shure wants.

People talk about "synergy" between gear, and some people love it or hate it (who wants temperamental gear?). I will say, though, that I think I found some synergy with my office setup:

Shure SE846->white filter->Comply P Series*->FiiO E12A->FiiO X5ii

The SE846->E12A pairing is arguably among the most important.

*Second place goes to red Westone Star Tips (which are basically the Comply P tips in silicone form), and third place goes to Comply T Series.

Shure SE846 cables suck balls. Both of them are broken now.

Currently using the iPhone cable of my Shure SE535.

The Shure SE846 has less bass with the Shure SE535 iPhone cable it seems on the iPhone 6S plus?

Contact Shure and see if they'll send you out another one

I guess I'm not too surprised to read this. I don't know anything about the 535's or iPhone, but I have noticed that stepping down a grade on what cable you use impacts the bass sometimes more than the treble.

My Comply TX series just arrived today. Hopefully I get the best fit out of the Medium size. I wonder if there's any tips that are just like the stock Shure olive tips. They feel really good. I will definitely need to check out the other tips too.

The White filter is too bright for my taste, while the Blue filter is just a little bit bright. Black is the best, it gives me the best balance out of all.

One if my stock cables broke in less than a year. I have a Uranus IEM-413 cable also arrived today. I'm not really believer of cable enhancements but since I need to replace mine, why not?

After more than 3 years with the 846, I have the old itch for something new to get excited about. However, I don't see anything tempting in reading various threads around the forum. Everything just seems to have a favor of the month aspect. I don't know, I guess it is saving me money. Meanwhile, I am still enjoying the 846 daily.
