Got my SE846 today.

To Spyro, my SE846 (with reference filter) right out of my iPod Touch 3G (no EQ) does NOT have more bass (or treble) than the SE535 out of my Galaxy S2 (heavily “EQed” with Poweramp's Tone control—treble maximum and bass most of the way up). I guess that says something for EQing the SE535 (even though the brief comparison was rigged).

The “bad news” is I never thought much of my iPod Touch 3G as a music player. Even connected to the Headstage Arrow 4G, it didn't make any previous IEM (UE900, SM64, W4, IQ, IE8 and others I've had) sound better (or bassier) than the S2/SE535 combo (IMO). But, I could actually listen to music with the iPod/ SE846 combo. It's pretty decent. I can hear a lot of potential there...

I won't try the SE846 with any other player tonight because I want to go to bed. I'll see if I can get it to out-bass the (EQed) SE535 tomorrow (in another rigged competition). Mind you, the 535 has no bass (to speak of) out of my iPod Touch 3G where as the SE846 rivals the IE8 in ( no EQ) bass right out of the iPod.

My SE846 died less than a month of usage. Right driver had totally no sound. Swapped cables here and there and there still isn't any sound coming out from my right side. Definitely something wrong with the internals or the drivers. Seriously doubt the quality check these IEMs go through. Very disappointed with the quality. SQ wise, I really enjoy it alot though.

From what I've been reading here about these I'm going to have to start saving for these and maybe selling a few different iems I own now to fund these. Dam you headfi!! Dam you!! Lol

The only part that usually breaks is the jack and cable... The driver earpiece never fails.

I am sorry to hear that. When you bought them a month ago wasn't the box already opened and then scotch taped closed. Did you ever get an explaination from the retailer? At least you are under the 2 year warranty and Shure has a good reputation for its warranty.

Yeap they insisted they didn't :p Yeap it is under warranty, funny thing is that Asia only has 1 year while US website shows SE846 has 2 years.. I hope I can get a fixed pair back soon..looking at how limited these IEMs are.. I highly doubt so though :(

Well, got these today and I have to say they're pretty darn nice! I just swapped the treble filter on and I think I prefer it. I think these are very good, but not sure if better than the K3003i's; I'll compare tonight. The earphones are smaller than I thought, they seem smaller than 535's but they are not. They are more comfy though.

Give them a chance to burn in. I swapped to the bright filters the first night as well but 4-5 hours of listening the SE846s settled in and I switched back to the balanced. The bright filters mask a bit of the amazing subwoofer sound.

My 535 had the same problem. I sent the defective unit to Shure and received a new one very quickly. Top notch service no matter where you live.

Truckdriver - Yes, I will be very interested in the comparison. I won't use EQ if it adds distortion of any kind and I don't get that with amped SE535 + Ipod Classic.  I have a hard time understanding why so many dont use EQ.  The way I look at it everybody has sort a sweet spot in the type of sound they are looking for with whatever the set-up you have.  That sweet spot might be WITH using EQ with SE535 and not using EQ or using less EQ with SE846 but I am guessing that these 2 IEM's sound much closer and similar than they sound different.   Sort of like saying an amped and EQ'd SE425 probably sounds veryclose to an unamped SE535.   Then each person must decide if the premium $$ is worth it or not.

Personally I don't use eq because my dap of choice 801/901 either doesn't have it (901) or has a very poor implementation that affects sq (801).

How do I get the tips off? I tried twisting but can't get it to budge. I don't want to break it.

Thanks in advance.
