Are you going to use an amp with it? For BA iems, AK100 changes the sound sig. It could be for the better or for the worse. With an amp, AK100 is at a different league.

So with an amp: Go for AK100.

With out an amp: Buy AK100 and mod it for $250(much better SQ than X3, but much pricier) or just go for X3.

Hey,

Thanks for the response.

Im not going to be using an amp.

The JH16 Pros already lean towards warmer side so i dont really want there to be further changes in sound sig. In saying that, They only reason the AK100 appeals to me over the Fiio X3 is because it is so much smaller and convenient.

I also heard that the AK100 need a higher impedance iem to run properly. Do you know anything about that at all. The Jh 16s are 18ohm whils the AK100 is like 22.

Thanks

So the sound will change. AK100 doesn't like iems, especially low impedance BA iems. However, you don't really know how the sound will change. For example, on my UERM, the bass doesn't change a single bit. Only the treble tames down when paired with AK100.

High impedance player(AK100) changes the sound of low impedance iems(JH16).

However, I personally really like my AK100. I just EQ the treble up and the sound is back to normal!

That being said, you can buy the AK100 and mod it so it has 1ohm impedance. That way, it would pair fine with JH16.

tbh, the AK100 alone was kind of pushing my budget. Getting it modded doesnt come cheap either. I may have to settle for the X3. Its a shame because the AK100 is pretty much what I was hoping for in terms of size and user interface (im not keen on the buttons on the X3). Ill probably keep my open on an alternative in the meantime though.

Sorry to hear that. It's annoying, isn't it?
