Very true. And $25 headphones don't make me think they are going to be good sounding

Don't take my word for it. Find a place where you can listen to it.

Try a store that sells them. if you can't demo them, then have faith based on all the great reviews of them on head-fi. Many here including myself own it.

The JVCs are On-Ear. If you're going that route, the V-Moda M-80s are it. I have both of these. The M-80s blow away the HA-S400s.

Oh sorry. Didn't know what I was thinking when I said that

I must say that I am not much of an “on ear” fan; at least I thought I was until a friend needed cash and was selling his V-Moda M-80 and I bought it.  Now I already own the V-Moda LP2 and I love the sound, as well as the Bass Freaks, which are a great bargain, but I have to agree with WideBoy, the M-80 is fantastic for the price.  I don’t notice any discomfort wearing them, since they feel like fluffy clouds on my ear and the pressure is not too great.  They are also perfect for the time I need to at least feign that I am listening to my wife so that when she pauses I can say something intelligent like “uh-uh”, which I cannot do with over the ear headphones.  I really think that you will like the V-Moda package, as the case, cable and accessories are a really nice package.
