Will Ship To: Anywhere
Update6th of August:
The die has been cast and the lucky winner is kp8. Congratulations! This has been decided by lot so I hope that nobody feels discriminated.
FYI, I did have to rule out the majority of applicants - I was a bit surprised to see how many people owning equipment worth several thousands of $ have applied. Is it greed? I don't know. But I hope that those people feel a bit ashamed.
Luckily there were also many positive responses in this thread and more by PM, thanks to you all!
I'll leave this thread open for a couple of days so people who are wondering what came of this can see it. I'll close it later on.
I'm cleaning out my collection and some of my equipment that isn't getting enough use is looking for a new home. Here's a Fostex T50RP that has been modded very un-professionally by myself, which includes stuffing Dynamat, Paxmat, and various other materials into the cups, cutting the felt on the ear-side of the drivers and adding Sony MDR-SA5000 earpads (genuine leather!) as well as a padding strip beneath the headband. I've probably done some more stuff but I don't remember all the details.
The cable has been replaced as well with a fixed 3m Cordial cable with a 3.5mm termination.
The result isn't anywhere near as good sounding as a professionally modded pair such as the Mad Dogs, but to my ears they're almost decent. They are very dark sounding, somewhat like a HD650 with a bit more clarity but a smaller soundstage (which is very small, indeed). The bass is quite nice and very punchy. It also isolates very well.
If you move your head very quickly and abruptly while wearing them something inside the cups creates a slight scratching noise, so possibly the cable has to be re-soldered.
As this is more something of an experiment I don't want to charge anything for it. It's being "sold" as-is, meaning that I don't guarantee that they will work and/or sound any good (they work, and while they don't sound particularly good they're quite alright - I just don't offer any support).
If you're interested please let me know. I will only give these to someone who has been a member of the community for some time*, and I'd prefer to give them to someone who doesn't have any decent headphones at the moment, so please be fair - if you already have a collection of 'phones please don't ask for these. Obviously I can't check this so I'm just asking you to be fair, I hope that's sufficient.
I reserve the right to choose to whom I give these without giving any reasons. Also, the recipent will have to pay for any shipping and eventual fees.
*: By "some time" I don't necessarily mean several years; I merely don't want to give them to someone who has only just joined and/or posted nothing.
Please forgive me if I do not answer all PMs. There are just too many. However, I do read and consider them all, promised!
Shipping within Europe is about 20€, international about 30€ (registered mail with insurance and tracking).
EU buyers please note: As Switzerland is not in the EU, you will have to pay import tax which depend on the country you live in. Please take this into account.
Local pickup is possible as well of course.
