Closed phones that stand up to the likes of LCD-2 and HE-500?

Not necessarily in every miniscule aspect of sound quality, but at least in the same league of sound? I'm taking on a random roommate next year who may not be as tolerant of indistinct music leaking out of my open-back phones, and I figured I should at least keep 1 good closed phone in my inventory. I was looking into the ATH-W1000x, but would love to hear some other opinions about different phones that may suit the job.

I have a bottlehead crack, schiit lyr, O2, and Matrix M-stage at my disposal so hopefully amplification won't be an issue.

Oh, let's keep the budget under $400 used or new.

Thanks! smily_headphones1.gif

beyerdynamics dt 880 ( 32 Ohm )

Not sure that any of those are in the same league as the LCD-2 or HE-500.

That, and the DT880s are Open; and the OP is looking for Closed cans.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not comfortable with the D2000 build quality nor was I very impressed when i had a brief chance to try them out (met a stranger on a bus).

I've owned the DT880 600 ohm variant before and was not a fan of the sound even after recable and trying a few different amps.

Between the SRH840 and the K550 I've heard the K550 is the winner. I'll think about it some more.

Sorry to be so picky!

I highly recommend the Sony MDR-7520.

(The top of the line in their Professional Series.)

IMO a better sounding - and better made - headphone than

the K550, AD2000, and SRH840.

Sorry I forgot to post back with what I actually ended up doing.

I went ahead and purchased a pair of ATH-W1000X's new with like $150 of cashback rebates. Very very pleased. Now if only I could get my damn oily fingerprints off...
