Upgrading source? Your opinions needed

Just want to get your opinion....

My speaker-based system currently consist of Sony DVP-NS500V>>Cambridge Audio A500 integrated amp>>NHT SB2. I have a spare formerly top-of-the-line Technics Dolby Pro-Logic receiver sitting around....the receiver was hardly ever used. It was tested in the old Stereo Review and was judged to be a better stereo receiver instead of a surround sound receiver. I am thinking of selling the Cambridge integrated amp, and take the $$ to upgrade the source. What do you think?

Have you compared the Cambridge and the Technics in your setup?

I would just get a Panasonic digital amp but I already have one

Ian,

You have the XR25 or the XR45? What's you opinion of those? Since I am running a SACD player as source, I was thinking the analog>>digital conversion within the Panasonic digital receivers would hinder any benefit I get from SACD.

I haven't compare the Technics to the Cambridge.

I have the XR25 and really like it.

But if you're going to use any high res audio which doesn't support digital output then I'm not sure I'd use the Panasonic.

I never listened to the ADC of the Panasonic. Some say it's not great. Some like the Griffin PowerWave's chipset for ADC as digital amp. I never heard that either.

Well I'd compared the Technics to the Cambridge. Then sell the one I dont' like. Then upgrade source. Maybe try out a digital amp and compare that later.
