OTG cable for Galaxy S4 (micro to mini)

Hey guys,

I know there have been questions around which cables to use with FiiO e17 and the Galaxy S4.  I got this cable on ebay and I can confirm it works.  It took me a lot of searching to figure this out so hopefully this saves some time for people out there.  $4 + $1 shipping.

Ebay link

S4 (micro usb) >>> e17 (mini usb)

Took ~2 weeks to get it, which was the only downside, but reasonably priced.

FYI - this FiiO L15 is less "stiff" and right now it's $5.87 with free shipping

10 RMB plus 8 RMB domestic shipping within China (roughly 3 bucks) but it's much more expensive to order that anywhere else

Heck, it's like HK$99 here in Hong Kong, LOL

I wish I had known about this! If I lose my cable I'm Def getting this one. Thanks for the heads up.

I really love the 90 degree, right angle form factor of those. I just put in an order for an iBasso D-Zero for my Note 2, and I'm looking for a cable just like this one in a Micro to Mini OTG setup. I have several of the stock iBasso cable, plus a longer one sold by Toxic Cables, and I *definitely* plan on buying one of the FiiO L15's. (And, I know that Forza makes a really nice, aesthetically pleasing one too: http://forzaaudioworks.com/en/product.php?id_product=55).

I just can't find one that has a L-shaped termination to take pressure off the USB port on both devices and make it more pocket friendly. If anyone knows of one, even at a premium, I'd appreciate any tips on where to pick it up.

DIY parts for right angle are very affordable, more like a dozen pennies (0.8 RMB in China)

You could see other USB cables with that particular 90 degree form factor, just not the exact Micro to Mini we're looking for

I checked the comments of previous buyers of those DIY parts and they even received 2 or 3 sets while ordering only 1, LOL

Maybe we could contact James to find out if there were any plans for right angle version of FiiO L15 in the future

If they were not interested in making new ones, we could consider asking someone in Canton Province to get some cryogenically treated Neotech bulk wires and then we'll just pay a fair price for the parts/labor etc.

I'm also interested in such cable because of this totally awesome DSD DAC/amp from Resonessence

That *is* a totally awesome amp/DAC.

I shot a message off to Forza earlier this morning to see if they can do a custom 90 degree of their Android OTG cable. I'll let you know what response I get back.

Just found one silver Micro to Mini in 90 degree form factor from this Chinese seller for 199 RMB (30 bucks or so)

I hope that Matthew will make one for a reasonable price. Otherwise, you could think about this particular source if their 4-inch length / $50 config for a "plain vanilla" cable type were OK

That is a fantastic micro-to-mini. My Chinese is a bit rusty (and by rusty, I mean non-existent) so I can't tell if it lists that it's OTG capable or not! If so, that's aesthetically pleasing and looks very sturdy. It's also a great price at ~30 USD.

Matthew got back to me very, very quickly. (Customer service is in no way lacking over at Forza.) He said that ATM they don't have a right angle version of their OTG cable, and that modifying one of their existing ones would take a lot of work involving epoxy shaping. I'll send a PM with the price because I think it's a bit of a social faux pas (or, at minimum, just rude) to post custom cable pricing offers in a public forum. Even at the premium price, I'm milling it over a bit. It's a nice looking cable, and I know that Forza cables often outlive the devices using them.

That's a reputable seller who handled iMod / LOD / cables etc. for plenty of audiophile in Asia. He mentioned that's designed for USB DAC rather than using that OTG term since not everyone in China could figure out what OTG is.

Sometimes those Chinese sellers might know a bit of simple English so you could try to contact him via MSN (Skype at the moment) or e-mail (163.com) him

If that were no go at all, just do a search on eBay and Google for something like "Taobao agent" so that could help you to get something shipped to US

Or simply ask some forum members in China for a favor instead.

Other than that, how about making a deal with Brian and send him like whole bunch of right angle USB connectors for cheap. It ain't making much sense to import just a couple of connectors but it might be OK to get more for other cables in the future.

Finally, you could also talk to this forum member in Illinois regarding DIY cables for your specific needs

I use the iBasso/Toxic cables mini to micro short OTG cable. I wish it had 90 degree ends, but I like it otherwise.

The Taobao Agent route looks to be the direction I'm going to go. These two sites you linked look like just the thing!

They even have a calculator to estimate the order cost, total should be around $50 / $70 shipped by AIR MAIL / EMS respectively.

http://taobaofocus.com/order/taobao-shipping-fees-calculator

This seller on eBay is relatively new but $1.99 service charge should be pretty much the lowest so far

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-99-only-No-Commission-Taobao-Alibaba-Buying-Purchasing-Agent-Service-/171037986350

Definitely choose PayPal for either route so you'll have that 45-day window to file a dispute if necessary.
