That is a very big praise for the Yulong, since Audiostream gave the TEAC a pretty good review already.  I think I will order one, in silver :)

What ever happened to the much talked about "enhanced" version of the DA8 (the D8)? Will it ever be available for purchase?

I may have outdated information, but the last I heard is the D8 was pre-order only and will be Yulong's "statement" DAC for the ESS9018 chip. Looking at all the power, regulation, and filtration, I have no doubt it will be "over-specced" for the 9018 chip. While most designers suffer with this chip, he needs a better challenge :D

I am not very familiar with Audiostream, but giving a good review to the Teac raises an eyebrow. It's a great unit on paper, but not in the SQ dept.

I've been talking to Yulong lately, and, no, it will never be available for "commercial" purchase, so to speak. As in, not for the wide public. He has an extremely limited amount, and those are just going to be a sidestep to the upcoming A28 (headphone amplifier to mate up with the DA8) and the D200 MKII (the successor to the D100).

Yeah, he is most likely personally building the D8 units himself. I can't imagine any line assembly having the skills/equipment required to keep it in it's rated performance.

It's crazy honestly, he never stops. I thought the DA8 was going to be it for a while, but he's like, "Nope, I still have the D8, the A8, the D200 MKII, and the A28 In production. Possibly more."

It's like, who builds that fast? It's crazy good! smily_headphones1.gif

It's because he is young lol. You don't see too many designers without gray hair

Which one? The A8, or A28?

Theres 2 I believe, the A8 and the A28 if Im not mistaken. The A28 will be a fully balanced amplifier which addresses the A18 amplifier that had a balanced in and out but a was of a single ended amp. The A8 is a different beast.

The A8 is Yulong's high end version. Fully balanced front to back that used two A18 components, essentially stuffed in the same chassis.

Correct. The A28 is also a balanced amplifier with a more neutral presentation If Im not mistaken. So I assume, the A8 will continue its warm character with loads of more grunting power.
