I am coming to the same conclusion.

After listening to the X-Sabre that the review says is alot like the Yulong DA8, I am finding that the quality increase is not worth the SGD$1400.
Oh but it is child.. It is.

I would say it would be a 8. It's not as dynamic as when hooked up with the v200 and lacks a bit of the bass impact.

Query: My DA8 in USB shows 44.1 when connected with computer USB (Win 8). No sound comes through.

However, when I unplug the USB, the LCD screen starts flashing on and off continuously and keeps clicking with each flash.  It doesn't matter what input it is set to - that pattern repeats itself. It is stable when USB is plugged in - again, no matters what input it is set to.

I assume this is not normal?

Just want to confirm before contacting vendor for return.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks,

UL

Have you checked the voltage selector on the back to make sure its set for your region?

I am actually surprised you gave it such a high rating. It drives low impedance dynamic phones like MDR-1R just fine, but Mad Dog sounded quite restricted and wooled comparing to GS-1, may be just wrong pairing as onboard amp is quite warmish, but I got feeling that its also power issue, planars are tricky beasts to drive to their best.

I liked the TH-900 alot out of it myself too when I had them.

hi,
so, according to people having tested the DA8 vs the Matrix X-sabre, the matrix is very close to the DA8 ? Am I right ?
On rca output, the matrix is ahead the DA8 ? right ?

I know the Matrix has a very high output level (it could be a problem).

I don't know which of the two is better, more neutral and transparent (this is my REAL problem :L3000: )

P.S. The Matrix lacks the toslink input

Thanks for this! Given how impressions of what a solid performer the V200 is around here, an 8 is great for for an internal amp on a DAC of this caliber.

Please bear in mind this rating was with the LCD2 only, not sure how other phones will fare with the DA8s internal amp.

I have read some reviews about Yulong DA8 vs other DACs in this thread, but I have read nothing about testing procedures:

- no comparisons between inputs

- upsampling or not,

- which software, PC or MAC/Linux?

- Symetric ouputs or not...

That is not very serious for listeners  and readers to make up their mind for choosing or making the skills understandable of this DAC... Disappointed, I am... Waste of time... Keep in touch for further tweaks about DA8, nevertheless...

Best regards.

Not sure what you mean. You, yourself, have talked about optical versus USB performance. Several of us responded back and forth to agree or disagree. For the rest, my original post covers most or maybe all of those questions. Sorry if it might be a little confusing because it's a long review, but it's all in there somewhere.

Hello project86,

by my words, I didn't intend to dismiss your review of course. I found it very nice even if I put some comments to precise my thoughts, and overall my experiment. But, some posts look like pointless verbal sparring because of a lack of known parameters. That's the meanings of my intercession.

Best regards.

You are welcome to do all the test yourself if it's such a concern. Grants offer a 30 day trial for you to take a closer look under the microscope.

They also have a 10% restocking fee plus reimbursement of shipping and I believe the credit card fees
