I'm streamlining my system(s) and consolidating to just one, so I'm letting some things go. The Wadia 27ix is a fantastic DAC. With its digital volume control, it can function as a digital preamp driving any amplifier without the need for a traditional preamp (I drive VTL monoblocks directly via 8m cables). I bought this as a 27 from a local dealer and had it upgraded to 27ix. It has been in a dedicated listening room in a smoke-free environment.
It has six digital inputs including two glass fiber optical, two coaxial with BNC connecter, one AES/EBU with XLR connector, and plastic optical TOSLINK. Equipped with proprietary Wadia Clocklink anti-jitter mode. The 'ix' version supports digital up to 24/96 which sounds fabulous and, in fact, I up-sample all CDs to 24/96 and feed it AES/EBU to the Wadia 27ix. The 27ix version of the famous Wadia reconstruction filter is DigiMaster 1.x which is the highest quality/bit rate version available (only the 900 series and the 27ix use DigiMaster 1.x, the others use DigiMaster 2.x or 3.x which have lower processing rates).
The 27ix with upsampling of redbook CD betters SACD quality to many reviewers and to my ears. Many feel the Wadia 27ix is far superior to the current Wadia 521 decoding computer. The classic Wadia sound is very smooth and non-etched, but with great dynamics, air and incredible detail. It throws a spacious three-dimensional soundstage. Condition 8/10 for age but front is perfect (pix to come).
