I would say that when amp'd (even out of my E11), they bring the bass for a neutral pair of headphones. No fat, bloat or overhang. Just quick, taught and deep bass.

Even? These are portables right? Shouldn't they not need an amp stronger than that? If they do...

They do sound pretty good right out of my iPhone or iPad, but they (like the P7s sound better out of my E11...which happens to be a portable amp ;)).  But I think the H6's benefit more from the E11 than the P7s...but some more testing is really needed.

Actually, of all the headphones here I'd rank them as the most "neutral" and the M200s in #2 (though they come off a bit too mid-centric for my tastes and didn't isolate worth much at all). The H6's air/space and soundstaging is head above shoulders better after one afternoon with them. These are gonna push the P7s...I can tell already.

The new 2013 Studios are a cut above with regards to leakage. The old Beats were pretty horrible at this (and pretty much everything else for that matter).  My wife doesn't seem to mind them...and she's a tough person to keep happy with regards to noise (thus my speaker hobby turned into headphone audio for the most part).

Hey MH

I totally agree about the new Beats Studio sounding great. Honestly, it's like a 1000% improvement over the old Studio, it's nothing short of a miracle turn around. I wouldn't mind listening to them as a portable can now (on the plane or subway/buses). It paired well with the X3. My only complaint about it is that it can't be used in passive mode and so the battery must always be charged and NC on. The NC hiss was acceptable for me though. I thought the old studios represented about $10 in sound, I think the new one's represent $200. So that's like a 2000% increase in my mind.

I tried auditioning the H6 and P7 using my X3 at the Apple Store, went there again today. (3rd time this week), and honestly I think their system or the loud enviornment is interfering with my ability to see their qualities. I of course checked for a good seal fit too. The Beats Studios sounded better with multiple songs from multiple genres (all lossless of course). Which I'm pretty sure isn't right. right? My guess is that they plug the headphones into something really bad quality over at the Apple Store, before the line comes back out again to plug into the headphones. Not sure what's hiding under that desk, but it's not a direct line from headphone to my X3.

The impression I got about the P7 was that the treble was too hot, the mids too thin and the bass, although well extended, sounded a bit flabby and loose. I did notice however that they were the most resolving of all the headphones there (but not by much). Overall I preferred the Studios over all the phones at the Apple Store.

I might go tomorrow and purchase them both (H6/P7) and test them out at home for 14 days and return one of them, or maybe even keep both if they're worthy. I didn't want to do this because I always feel bad about returning headphones, but it's getting to that point where I'm kind of frustrated...

Yeah, I hear you...the loud Apple Store is the last place I'd recommend anyone auditioning a pair of headphones. Of the ones I've listed here in my comparative review, the H6s and P7s are two of my favourites.

On another note, I'm glad to see that Beats are taking good sound seriously this time around. Funny, the new Monster DNA Pros (not sure if they're released yet...they're the over ear version) sound very good too. A bit on the brighter side of neutral to my ears, but still so much better than the old Monster Beats of old.

My local authorized Apple Store is really quite... Sometimes you can't find a single person in there probably due to the less population here (around 415 000 ++)

So am I the only one who find the B&O h6 to sound bassy, specially the mid bass? @.@

That's actually what am I kind of planning to do. Go during super quiet hours, like the morning on a weekday (when I have a day off that is).

As for the H6 being bassy. I have no idea what you're talking about. LOL. No offense meant of course. :D It was super linear and flat, to the point that it was boring. Like I mentioned before the thing that I wasn't impressed with was the resolution (detail extraction) and the dynamics were also kind of flat (not enough weight and slam to mids, treble, or the bass). It was like B&O went out of their way to create something unoffensive, so unoffensive to the audiophile that it sends one to sleep.

I guess we all really hear differently. What was your source? I was using a X3.

Man.. I can't be drunk when I demo the H&O H6! I was using E07K + iPhone 4. I hope I am not into hating bass kind of stuff... Or have I forgotten to turn off my EQ on my FLAC player but that's just a +2dB boost at the sub-bass and upper bass for my Grado ._.

Well I'm going back tomorrow afternoon. It'll be noisy cause it's Saturday. I'll audition both the H6/P7 again and hell I might even buy one of them or both and bring them home to audition so I can try to find out what all this hype is for. I should hook them up to my Emotiva and blow them up.

Oh well... I hate going into crowded store ._. Even when buying my school stationery, I won't go in if it is loaded with students and parents xD

I like the idea of "blow them up" evil_smiley.gif

Try going to an Apple store to listen to the P7...with the wife, three year old and 6 month old daughters! That was a debacle. And I had to wait forever while some guy discovered this thing called a "touch"...which just happened to be attached to the only P7 to audition in the store!

Been there...done that....not going to do it again (except 1 daughter and 1 son).

FWIW, the Apple Stores here in Toronto are never empty. They're always packed and busy.

Thanks for your contributions to this thread, I've found them very useful. Have you had any experience amp'ing the P7s with a cheap portable amp, run through an iOS device? Is it worth spending the money to get the portable amp for the P7s/

Funny you should ask, my prime 2 solutions for the P7 is a cheap E11 and my iPad. They do sound a bit better out of the FiiO amp, though still outstanding out of the iPad directly. The H6's sound quite a bit better with the portable amp.

Nope...sorry. This has been an expensive venture...but if someone would like to send one to me, I'm game.
