I liked the sound of the vmoda xs but the only deal breaker for me how loose they felt on my head, they would easily slide out of place with any sudden movement, looking down or bending down. May be it was because of my short hair, I wished they would clamp more securely. So if you are fairly active person listening on the go I would not recommend them. Hope Vmoda fixes the issue

That and the lack of isolation...but I really enjoyed the XS.

Looking forward to your impressions! I still have mine here and have zero plans on moving them.

I just checked out your rankings again, and I see that you have them ranked #12. Just curious: why you wouldn't move them?

p.s. I presume that you're talking about the "over ears", but your profile inventory shows you still having the "on ears".

I really should get around to that...ok...done.

EDIT: If the over-ears weren't so rolled off, they'd be up higher too.

Cool. So they're good. 'Nuff said!

Btw, I have kind of come to the conclusion that I don't really like on ears. The only ones for me so far with good SQ that are remotely comfortable are the M500's, but they are too loose/sloppy on the head. Well, the T51P's were pretty comfy as well (and sounded decent enough), but I don't have them anymore, so I choose to simply be bitter about them lol. All the others are too uncomfortable! The only ones that I actually love are the Sony CD777's (which would I suppose be categorized as over ears if you have 1 inch wide ears lol), but those are circa 1989, so I guess they don't count.

Thanks for listening to my rant. End of rant!

If not id be interested in how they compare :0 i had both the amps and the momentum at the same time, both isolated well. But the momentums (im assuming your referring to the over ears) are more comfortable with their light clamp, they were just enough for me to be *over the ear* my outer r touches a bit of the fabric but i didnt feel any irritation.
But for me i ended up keeping the amps smily_headphones1.gif they sound great that tight , fast bas) and exciting and they have the *discontinued* label on them which makes me feel like i got a *rare* headphone even if it isnt smily_headphones1.gif.

I have them both up for sale now, but being in Australia it can be a wee bit hard selling stuff. I have had to move things onto Ebay before to actually get them to sell. To be brutally honest... People will think i am crazy. But out of all the headphones i have owned and i have owned quite a few pairs.... My Alessandro MS-1's put a smile on my face like no other, for me they just sound "right" Not saying the Momentums or Amps arent good. They are wonderful sounding headphones. The Amperiors sound pretty close to the MS-1's actually.

The reason you are keeping your amps had me thinking the same actually... :)

I've always found Gumtree to work well for me when selling stuff in aus but I guess your mileage may vary. :P

I'm wondering if the oppo pm-3's will be added to this thread when they release. Planar magnetic cans in a portable form factor and under 400 price. Look well built too so should pretty much be ideal for portable use. Really looking forward to trying them out when they release!

Will need to take a look at the Oppo's once they hit the market.. Not that i need more cans ;)

I was also thinking gumtree might work, seeing as its free to post up items! Plus i wont have to ship and the person can just pop around to pick em up.

Well

after owning (not all at the same time) the Senn HD 1 II, Focal Pro, Senn Momentum,

Thinksound On1, Beyer T51p, Senn Amperior, AT ESW9A, AT ES7,

I like the T51p the most.

Not perfect, obviously, but the most realistic presentation with respect to

soundstage, dynamics, frequency range; along with build quality, and comfort.

They were my go-to closed headphones until my recent Sony MDR Z7 purchase.

And they still sound great...(but the Sony does sound better).

Sonically I prefer the Sony MDR-Z7, but they're too big and bulky for "on the go" headphones.

Yes, I didn't even consider including them as 'portables',

because they ain't...though IMO they're truly stellar headphones.

Ok... so i sent the mdr1rmk2s back. Geeze they sounded good in store. The nc pretty much did bugger all. Also the fact that having it on sounded a hell ofalot better then with it off turned me away. Got a refund and im not sure which way to head. Might just keep my amperiors for travel. Hmmm decisions again.
