I really hope the change of ear pads gets rid of the bass hump and opens up the soundstage.

Might make an interesting addition to the review.

I would figure that the pads would place the drivers further from the ears, resulting in less bass and more top end.

Agreed completely! And here I was about to add the P5s.   Guess I'll add them anyway, but now I wanna hear the P7s. :o

(I agree with you though that a bit less bass and a bit more up top would really help...just hoping B&W do it with new drivers as well).

+1 - if they just use the same drivers, it doesn't really justify the inflated price tag.

I read about Bowers & Wilkins new driver on p7 but freq response only up to 20k?
They brag about their new voice coil lighter using aluminum when Audio Technica been using ccaw for years. Anyway no spec can tell untill it is herd.

Change of plans. I was going to add the B&W P5s, but with the announcement of the P7s, I think I'll wait to see if I can snag a pair instead.

Don't waste your time on the P5s. Not in the same hockey rink as the cans you reviewed :)

Of course if one likes really mellow then by all means!

MH, since you are buying everything under the sun, you should also get your hands on the Onkyo HF300s and the Bang and Olufsen H6s!!!!!!

I was going for the B&O headphones but the deal was for the black headphones... I like how the natural version look better! :-)

I honestly don't think the Onkyo HF300 are in quite the same league as the current table-leaders, but it might be nice to add a bass-head can into the mix - it's quite a nice bass-head sound too.

Full agreement on the H6 though. Others have said it's bass-light, but I really liked it. I think it's closer to 'neutrality' than most of the others.
