Comparisons: 22 of the Top Closed/Portable Headphones Around - Page 159

Great reviews and comparison done here! Every update was a good read.. Im now down to the top 3 listed HP.

Among the three, what can you recommend that has the best isolation from outside noise. Will be using this for commuting and plane flights.

Right now im looking towards the t51p and vmoda xs.. Had listen to the HP50s yesterday for just 1 song and i need more time with them.

That would be my guess.

I wish Sennheiser released Momentum XL with HD650 size pads and with somewhat faster sound signature (for electronic music) and sold it as a closed-back easily driven alternative to HD650s, I'd buy them in a heartbeat. For me, Momentum is neither portable nor comfortable enough for home use.

IMO, H6 > HP50s in isolation.

I love my T51Ps. Having owned both I can say I much prefer them over the XS. And I wanted to like the XS soooo bad. They look amazing, feel amazing and fold up to fit in the palm of your hand. I'm not too crazy on the look of the Beyers. But sound is what matters and the Beyers take the cake imo.

Also note that the Beyers have superior isolation. I take the subway everyday and I can barely hear anything with the T51Ps while the noisy subway got in the way while using the XS.

Another note some people forget to mention is how good the sound leakage on the T51Ps are. I blast my music in an open cubicle environment and none of my cubemates can hear a thing. My mechanical keyboard makes more noise according to them.

I've had much bigger headphones that had much more sound leakage, the leakage on the T51Ps is almost non existent and I listen to pretty loud. X5 on High Gain and Volume at 75-80.

Responding to the cans you are presently mentioning...I have owned all 3 and still own the XS and the T51p.  The HP 50's sound incredible, a little goofy looking for my tastes to wear around in public and the least portable of the 3. T51p sound great, durability to haul around with me constantly, questionable(IMO), which kinda defeats the purpose of portability. XS sound great(but 3rd by a tiny bit)built like a tank but do not do a good job of isolating outside noise. The HP50 & T51p definitely win the battle of isolation.

I have the XS, travel quite a bit and use a city bus when I have to. The city bus is really loud and I don't hear it at all with volume about ~70%. I also didn't notice my brother yelling at me in my room when I was listening to music with my XS.

Never had a problem with my M80 and isolation either on public transit 5 days a week.

Definitely see if you can try both. I have owned two Beyer's, love the house sound, but Vmoda have an excellent house sound as well and well worth an audition. I am currently awaiting my XS to arrive and enjoying my M80s now.

I had own a M100 and love it really till i switched to ciems. I also tried the dt1350 and really love how they sound, even prefer them more than the senn hd25 II.. I tried the m80 before but as far as I can remember, its like a "so so" experience(not like the dt1350) so i guess i wont judge the xs first before I hear them hopefully soon.

For the current top 3 in terms of noise isolation exclusively, I'd rate them HP50=T51p >> XS.

So funny, I tried a 1350 at a headphone meet and found it really quite flat? Maybe I needed to listen more, not to mention meets aren't always the best place for an audition. Not sure how much playing around with the M80 you did, but they are very sensitive to positioning on the ear as you would expect. They aren't the last word in clarity, but the overall tonal signature is quite good over all, certainly for a portable where reference clarity/detail isn't really a consideration.

Interesting looking at your rankings - I vastly preferred the DT1350 over the T51p - it wasn't even a close race (though, I'll admit, the 1350's are pretty position sensitive, but with them for a year now, it's second nature to get a good seal right off the bat) ...

Thanks for your efforts putting this together.
