Hello Head-Fi!  Glad to be joining the community and Joe recommended I start here... so here I am!

I've been lurking a bit trying to soak up as much as I possibly can, but truth be told I'm no audiophile although I'd like to expand my knowledge on the subject!

Currently I'm looking to get a good all around PC gaming/streaming audio setup.  I think I've narrowed it down to the K701/K702/Annie or DT990s.  I currently have a xonar DG installed for the DH capability... but honestly I have no idea what would be best as what supporting gear to get.

Does anyone have any experience with the aforementioned headphones with a Magni/Modi combo or an O2/ODAC combo that can weigh in on the matter as far as strictly PC gaming?

I'd like the focus to be on comfort and soundstage for twitch games, as such I think the reviews on the K701/K702/DT990's have lead me to feel comfortable with a purchase of any of those headsets... but as far as the amp and DAC... well that's where I'm lost.

If any of you could spare a bit of time for some reviews or suggestions it'd be ridiculously appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm using the K240 (same breed of headphone as the K7XX series) and DT990 with the O2 and ODac.

I've been playing a fair amount of Skyrim with these headphones and amp/dac just to give you a reference point.
The games software still manages to do things like surround sound and spatial positioning etc. It's not perfectly smooth like a dedicated sound card would be able to do it, but it works.

To sum it up, the audio quality goes up massively and the headphones are driven perfectly, but the spatial sound transitions go down in quality. So far this hasn't really bugged me. I only notice it in slow conversation points in the game when I get bored and start looking around while an NPC is talking to me.

The AKG 7XX series are 62-Ohm, so the Xonar DG's very basic headphone amplifier might be able to drive them decently

For an amp upgrade.
The PAV2V (Personal Amp. 2 version 2) works as both as portable AC amp, sells on eBay for around $67.
The Schiit Magni seems well liked, $99
You can plug the PAV2V or Magni into the Xonar DG (green jack) and plug your new headphones into the PAV2V or Magni

The DT 990 Pro 250-Ohm headphones are full bass and full treble, which slightly overshadows the mids, but the mids are clear. I like to think of the DT990 sound as "action movie theater" type sound.

The AKG 7XX series would offer a more moderate bass, but should offer a better mid range then the DT990
