Worth it to upgrade from LDMKIII to Schiit Valhalla?

Hi

For months I've been wanting to upgrade from my little dot mk III to something bigger, and I've been thinking about the Schiit Valhalla.
Would it be worth it?

I'm using some Mullard M8161 on my little dot, and they've been awesome so far.

Any thoughts about this that might help me decide?

I'm using a pair of Sennheiser HD 650 at the moment, and my source is a Titanium HD.

Well I am in the exact same boat as you up to a point. My main concern is the high amount of heat generated by the MKIII and the length of time the unit is going to continue to work properly. Not looking forward in any way to shipping that heavy amp all the way to China if it comes to that. So I am looking for an affordable solution that is made in US. While I would love to get a Woo of some variety, it looks like either the Valhalla or Lyr are really my best bets along those lines. Not to mention they will look real good next to the Bifrost. I don't really think they will sound all that much better than the LD, but I think they will last a lot longer and be easier to service if they don't.

Yeah, the shipping part isn't my main concern though since I live in Sweden. I'm just after better SQ :)
My ldmkIII is rev 1.0 so I can't mod it all the way, which is kinda sad.

Mine is only a few months old so I am still running it stock. It sounds so good I may just leave it

I am not so sure that you would be doing more of a side step then an all out upgrade. Maybe bump up to the Lyr would make more sense?

Yeah that's what I was going for at first, but I really want to make sure that it'll do some sonic difference since the price is too high if there's no guarantee.

Okay, you should totally buy a pair of Mullard M8161-tubes though, they sound really good.

If you can stretch your budget maybe look into a WA3 as well, my woo is the nicest amp I have yet to hear on the 650's. I ordered a Crack, supposed to be REALLY good with the 650's but I have not received/built it yet.

HPiper I have a rev. 1 Little Dot MK III. I'm running Sylvania Gold Brand 5654 drivers (if you can find a matched pair they're the best tubes you can get for it) and the stock 6N6P power tubes. It's over 6 years old now without any issues. Trust me when I say you have plenty of time with this amp. So don't worry and just enjoy the music. o2smile.gif

If you're looking for a sq upg, the mk iv would be a good choice. I upgraded from the mk iii to the mk iv se and kept using the m8161 tubes with them. My hd600 sounds pretty amazing with the mk iv se and the m8161 tubes.

Could you give me a link to those tubes? I have a hard time finding good tubes lately... :)

Yeah that's a thought that I had too, until I mailed little dot, and the creator himself said he didn't recommend it unless money wasn't an issue, so it doesn't really feel like money well spent if that's the case.

http://stores.ebay.com/yenaudio is who I use for most of my vacuum tubes and where I got my matched pair Sylvania Gold Brand 5654 tubes.
