MB Quart QP95 (Quart Phone 95), TOTL in Excellent Condition

Will Ship To: Anywhere

MB Quart QP95: $90 (I will eat the Paypal fees) + $7 shipping

I am interested in getting one normal bias Stax Lambda driver (a pair if you can sell cheaply).

For independent reviews of the QP95, you can also do a search on QP95x and QP400, as all three are intimately linked and sonically similar.

And here is a related review by facelvegahttp://www.head-fi.org/t/208013/review-8-european-full-size-open-dynamics-1985-1995-long

The QP95s are rare high-end phones that were once the top of the line in the MB Quart lineup and rivaled the best from AKG, Sennheiser, and most importantly, Beyerdynamic. They are in excellent condition with the original cloth/kind-of-velour pads and an upgraded gold-plated plug.  The only physical defect is the lower cloth headband which has its plastic lining broken in two parts (just like many Yamaha YH/HP headbands). This does not, as far as i can feel, affect the comfort and the functionality of the phones as the cloth part is still perfectly intact.

They are very musical phones with superb speed and great detail thanks to the enormous drivers (I do have a preference for large, or dual, or planar drivers). Based on my experience modding open phones, I removed the damping foams inside the cups to completely free up the space behind the drivers and added a thin strip of felt on the back of cup (behind the horizontal plastic "divider") to "refocus," at least psychologically, the backwave. Just like what happened to my Koss A250, this modification helps to extend both the upper and lower frequencies and, more importantly, inject depth (and perhaps a higher form of life) into the sound.  With the foams inside, the QP95 sounds like a pair of high-end studio phones (which they are): fast, detailed, precise, but dry. Now, they have better extensions on both ends and a very musical and coherent presentation -- the mod gives the sound a 3D-like depth.  (By the way, if I had my Koss A250 with me, I would have certainly sold it before the QP95. But unfortunately, the Koss presently is in another country).

I have also included the original foams (the last photo), which are in excellent condition without deterioration, so that you can completely reverse my mod.

These phones will benefit tremendously from a powerful amp. They need both current and voltage swings.

Shipping: I live in the US and much prefer to ship the phones within the lower 48 states. In that case, shipping would be $7. If you are willing to pay the extra shipping and be completely responsible for all the shipping + custom risks, I will also accept offers from other places.

Feedback: I also have a few feedbacks from the archive: http://www.head-fi.org/t/185657/mudi-han.  Note the comments on the results of my previous modifications.

I have a pair of phone 95. These are really very nice headphones. I actually prefer them to Beyer dt880/990. It is a bargain for this price.

Good luck for the sale!

Thanks for the comment. These QP95s are indeed amazing, top-level phones.

I just want to add that the comfort level of these phones are to die for. This is due to their unique "cardamatic suspension" system (as they call it). Don't know why no other company has implemented it. It could be a patent related issue.

Anyway, everyone should *feel* them on at least once in their lifetime to know how comfortable headphones can really be. Sound is not everything.

BTW, I have GMP240 with a similar headband.
