Sansa Clip+ or Clip Zip with RockBox installed and a uSD memory card. This will give her amazing sound quality for the price, blows all the nano's away.

Best value is to get the 4GB Sandisk Sansa Clip+ or Clip Zip and add a Micro-SD memory card.

If you do not need anymore then 16GBs of memory, try to find a used Sony E465.

My little Clip Zip is a great portable audio player, but my 48 year old eyes need to use a larger screen,

so I bought a used Sony E465 off eBay.

Try asking about portable audio on the website Anythingbutipod.

The Clip zip Rockboxed is great. Rockbox is a free alternative operating system for the player(Rockbox.org)

If you don't plan to Rockbox the player though then get the Clip+, as the original firmware in the Clip Zip really sucks. With Rockbox though the larger screen on the Clip Zip is much more convenient. I have both the Clip+ and Clip Zip, and both are Rockboxed. I used the Clip+ for a few years before I Rockboxed it, but I hated the original firmware on the Clip Zip so much that  I Rockboxed it within  a week.

With the money you save on the player you can get her some nice headphones or earphones if she doesn't have them already.
