Because Q701 is a very different animal from 702 65th Anniversary. I have both. Q701 is brighter, more forward. 702/65th is better balanced, fuller low end, highs detailed but not strident. But for me the big difference is comfort. 702/65th is much more comfortable on my head -- less clamping in all directions. Not knocking the Q701 -- they are great headphones, vivid and lively, and a bargain these days. But for long-term listening pleasure. I turn to the 702/65th.

The K712 sounds much fuller, better bass, mids, as well as less harsh treble. So basically, the K712 is much better than the k240, as I own both and have done tests.

similar observation between Q701 and K712

Both very very close to the K7XX as well.

Q701 is brighter and more forward than the graphs indicate.  And even with the bass port mod, is slightly less subby than the K7XX, which is very closely akin, if not identical, to the two phones this thread is about.

No offense, but the AKG K7XX appears to be just an excuse to sell the Annie with Chinese manufacture.

Way to dig up a thread - 2014 is positively ancient in this forum section. ;)

I agree with your statement.

I prefer the better build and detail of the Annie over the K7XX.

But for $199 the K7XX is fantastic value.

I recently tried the K702 and K712 Pro. I found K712 to be ever so slightly better in the bass department and slightly fuller midrange. Treble was also good, well extended and slightly less harsh. I came to be loving K712 Pro, but they sell for ₹20k ($3k) here in India...

Hi. I just joined the headphone game some months ago. I already own the Hifiman HE400S, but im in search of a pair with more, if possible, much more soundstage. Regrettably my Budget is not soo deep and i have only 200-300 Dls available. I've read something  about the HE560 or the Shure SRH1840 but nothing lower than 300 dollars. I would like to know if AKG does a good job here? Maybe there are some other brands? Please Help me !!!

Just to make things easy... I do like bright sound, Neutral and as said, i would like very wide soundstage, imaging and some good instrumental separation.

K612 is less resolving, although slightly warmer and more forgiving than K702. A more 'musical' less technical version I would say.

K702 is a neutralish headphone with detailed treble and forward mids. It's a very good reference headphone with big soundstage.

K712 is very similar to K702 but has different pads for a warmer and more intimate sound. It's still very resolving and has more focused imaging than K702.

Side by side the K712 appears a tad darker than K702 and has slightly smaller soundstage.

These three headphones need quality DAC and headphone amp to shine.
