AKG new headphone K545? - Page 51

Can anyone comment on how the k545 might compare to the sennheiser momentums? Specifically with regard to it's portability and comfort.

I am having some comfort issues with my momentums because part of the cartilage in my left ear is touching the speaker inside the ear cups. I thought the k545 might do the trick but after seeing the images above the ear cups don't look much deeper.

Are the k545's also a lot bigger than the momentums? Because I like the portability of the momentums size and don't want to go much bigger.

edit: Just found out one of my local bestbuy's had the akg k545 so I will go and test them out. However I didn't notice discomfort from my momentums for a good 3-4 hours so it will be hard to know for sure if the 545's will indeed be more comfortable for me.

is it just the magnolia entertainment best buys that have the akg k545?

The K545 fits the ear much better than the Momentum but it is larger. For me while I found the K550 to large I have no issue using the K545 portably. I like how the head band is close to the head and then there is the seperate piece that extends out to fit the cup. This design makes them secure on my head and more stream lined in design which is a win win in my books. If you check my review out I have pictures of the K545 and the K550 and the size difference is very noticeable. It is quite a bit larger than the Momentum but I will live with size difference for the comfort the K545 affords every time.

I believe that is the case, I haven't seen the non-magnolia stores stock them.

Dweaver, thanks for the recommendation on that amp. This E17 seems to power these just fine. Can't get over the sound out of these... Seems like I've read of lot of concerns about these being a little light on the bass, though from what I'm hearing is a complete lack of mid-bass hump which seems to plague so many other headphones. With these when the recording calls for sub-bass, it is presented perfectly with detail. If I had to compare these to the iem's in my possession, the sound signature most closely resembles that of the GR07 bass edition. These are keepers...

These pick up the sub bass on the tracks in this vid nicely:

This one the sub bass is almost over the top:

Any comparisons to the HD600? I'm basically looking for a comfortable, closed back, easy to drive HD600 that isolates well.

If you like the HD600 a lot you might not like the K545. The K545 has less mid bass, more sub bass, more upper mids, possibly less lower mids, and AKG treble versus Sennheiser treble. Sound stage is hard to say as I have not had the HD600 for a couple of years now. If you can listen to a pair I would recommend doing so.

I have had the hd650 not 600 and would say the same differences as dweaver...with the mids less thick and lush but right there where they don't leave you wanting and way less congested(thick) sounding than the 7520...If I was complaining about the sony I would put these on and find relief without feeling like I want more mids.

though the lower mids have decent quantity.

for some reason I think he might like these. Based on where I have seen him hanging out at and posting, he might like these actually. They are smooth imo. and when i say dry I just mean they don't have a lot of reverb or slow decay... they are pretty clean.

He may like the NAD's like you recommended. I almost jumped on em until I saw the ear cup size.

akg treble is usually peaked or emphasized...sennheiser is usually darker or rolled off. so that means the k545 will have stronger treble than the senn

I would not call the K545 v shaped but almost / if anything with that slope being very gradual. But really the difference in treble for me is more how cymbals and hi hats are reproduced. Personally I find the the HD600 to sound a bit unnatural as they have almost a ping like sound while the K545 and AKG in general has a more crashing type sound. Other than that the AkG house sound is also a bit more emphasized than Sennheiser but the K545 is less than most AKG I have heard such as the K550 and Q701 so may be a good mix for imackler as grizzlybeast has suggested.

OK, I finally got mine yesterday.

First quick impressions... I love the sound, the signature is warm as expected and analytically as I like it. I totally love the bass and being a bass player is what I was looking for.

As some mention earlier the seal isn't that good, I have a big head and big ears so its difficult to find something perfectly comfortable, this are good enough, not perfect but quite nice.

I have to listen to them more and of course I will. I'll be posting a review and how they pair with the Fiio E18.

I have an average size head and ears and just need to bend the cups in at the bottom to get a decent seal, my ears lightly such the cup at various points but not enough to bother me even for extended listening sessions.

Glad you like the signature and look forward to your review smily_headphones1.gif.

Quick update:

For people with big ears like me this cans can get uncomfortable quickly. I can't stand the for more than 45 min.

That is to bad! I know what your experiencing as I have had that issue with other headphones and no matter how much I liked the signature I would eventually get rid of the headphone.

Maybe the brainwavz ear pad will work for you.
