AKG new headphone K545? - Page 14

Place in the back of best buy with a home audio theater and popular headphones.

Damn, I promised myself I wasn't going to post about this headphone unless requested but dang I love this headphone!!! I'm sitting listening to Neil Diamond Hot August Night in high definition FLAC format and everything is just so real on this headphone.

Honestly at the price point of this headphone and design I have not heard a better headphone. It's bass may be to much for some but I just love how full everything sounds while never losing anything in the other areas. It slays the MDR1R, DT1350, M500, M80, well pretty much every portable headphone I have owned and most of my bigger headphones too. Right now the Q701 is slighter better from a sound stage perspective and a bit more detailed but only just and yet because the K545 has it's own flavor I like them equally depending on mood. I sold my last Shure headphone before these arrived because the Q701 just made the SRH1440 sound off for me and these just continue to take me away from that sonic signature. I don't know maybe my tastes have just changed but these just sound so much more natural.

So just to make sure I wasn't just caught up in the Hot August Night album I just switched to JD Souther's version of The Sad Café and NOPE I just love this headphone! The trumpet in the song calls to me and the vocals which are decidedly higher pitched compared to Neil Diamond still sound spot on as does the richness of the guitars and piano. No it's definitely just the headphone :)

Slays the m500's? Strong words my friend, strong words! :-)

I do like their sound more than the M500 but I also prefer their fit and comfort as well which is part of their appeal. But as in all things sound is in the ear of the beholder :).

True dat! Seriously, I am happy that you are liking them so much - they are very much on my radar and I hope I get to try them. How much will they be again?

MSRP is $250. Which part of Canada are you located at?
Hmm... Superior to the m500.. Now I'm interested. I don't have any place to buy them. Not out in the US.

And now we also have B&W P7 and NAD Viso HP50.

And all seem to be quite well reviewed.

That HP50 looks very interesting as does the P7. The HP50 is similarly priced so would make for an interesting comparison in that sense, I also wonder about it's isolation. The K545 is only average in this area so the HP50 might have an edge in that department. The P7 is quite a bit more expensive though so has to overcome it's price deficit in regards to overall value. A nice shoot out between all 3 would be interesting but expensive (to expensive for me). Maybe 3 of us who each own one could work out a swap tour. My challenge for this though is shipping unless I can find two fellow Canadian members...

Peter (MacedonianHero), also Canadian, has P7 and planning on getting HP50, may be you can lend him your K545 or the other way around.

That could be interesting, I will wait until he has both which will give me time to get my final pair of K545. I just need to convince myself I can live without these while they would be getting reviewed LOL.
I just read through the P7 thread and based on reading I think I would stick with the K545 as they sound like they have similar levels of isolation and I get great comfort with the K545 plus they are lighter. Sound wise the K545 are as dark as I like, anything more would be too much and I have a feeling the P7 would fall into the too much category.

Beagle would also be a member worth sending these to for a comparison.

Damn this website. I also want to try the 545!

hmmmm, reading through the HP50 thread and I don't feel a strong need to try them either. It sounds like isolation might be similar to the K545 in which case I will stick with my Bose QC20 for the train and use the K545 for everything else aside from when I want an even more open sound in which case I will use my Q701. Just trying Mile Davis "Sketches of Spain" and enjoying the heck out of the album, these sound extremely good with Jazz very smooth and elegant.
