Pioneer SE-A1000 Appreciation Club ( Sennheiser HD 650 for $45?) - Page 13

I would love to pick up a pair of m390 to test that.

Would be cool if they compare the way the t500 does to the m50

Why would you ever want to dual entry? Dual entry is gross and cumbersome.

By the way, break in does nothing to these headphones. Also, burn in is the incorrect term. Burn in is a digital process, while what happens to headphones is a mechanical process.

Because I prefer dual entry. There is more or a channel imbalance with single entry. Look at the graphs in the OP.

These are cheap enough if i totally mess them up i dont mind. And yes I used the word cheap. I don't think cheap has a negative connotation... I like cheap, clearance rack/bin reselling is how I'm paying for medical school.

Inexpensive is a better word. I live off clearance, buying from goodwill, Ross, savers, etc. You can find extremely good quality hints second hand, it's why I enjoy thrift shopping.

Cheap has a negative connotations because it's associated with low quality, whereas inexpensive is not.

I found a tube in my collection that has no writing and I will take pictures of tomorrow and try to have identified (however I know it is a cheap one) that has added:

1. Added definition and punch to the bottom end.
2. Maintains sparkly highs.
3. Mids are more forward and analytical and definitely not as silky smooth as my mallard long plate but not lacking.
4. Sound stage is increased. It's the largest soundstage that I've ever heard (I've not experienced a ton of phones)
5. Imaging and instrument separation is unbelievable. Though this might be combined with my thoughts of soundstage. It feels like they go hand in hand. I truly feel like I'm in a concert hall or in the recording studio and can place every instrument.

If I have anything negative to say is that this much definition can be fatiguing as there is so much to listen to going on as the sound isn't condensed.

My setup right now is:

SE-A1000 ($46)
Project Sunrise II ($220)
Ipod classic ($100)
LOD to RCA ($80)
Tube = unsure but cheap
Total = $460 + tube

FWIW my whole setup costs less than the hd 650.

More to come as I experiment more.

EDIT: in full disclosure my other phones sound better with this tube with this amp as well. Also this is a new amp for me so there is an additional variable.

Edit II: listened to Kanye and listening to burial as we speak same tube and amp. The SE-A1000 doesn't offend and the Mids and highs are awesome but even with this tube it's still lacking in bass. My deep cup darts buyers have never sounded better with rap or dubstep. Trying vocal trance next.

By the way I loved the pioneers with rodrigo y gabriela live, the Decemberists and 30 seconds to mars

Yeah... I love goodwill and garage sales. Still trying to find a 2nd vintage receiver

Sadly the SA near my house hasn't ever had vintage receivers (or else people get tipped off by staff and snatch them up before they even go out on the floor). I've checked many times. The closest I saw was a pair of JBL monitors, but upon taking off the dust screen I discovered one of the woofers was punctured. That was disappointing.

Nevertheless I have a couple nice units. I got one of them from a relative and the other one from a good customer of our business, who knew I had my eye on it. Neither is particularly good for headphones, since one has bad filter caps and the other one has something like a 580 ohm output impedance (possibly higher if the resistors have drifted upward), so I get a fractional damping factor with everything I own (and probably everything in current production).

I was clarifying your misconception of my post, so I figured a quote from the dictionary would be appropriate. Forgive my wording if that is your interpretation, substitute the word inexpensive for cheap.

Sorry if my use of the word cheap offended was not my intent... buying nice inexpensive stuff is an awesome way to stretch you enjoyment of life and I am hoping these do just that.
