Yep....me!

I am speechless

I can't believe the improvement over the T50 and 1350...physically and sonically.

How does it differ to the DT1350?

IMO the DT1350 had over-controlled bass, very fine-grained and extended treble...and a pinched middle....also had a stiff, unwieldy metal headband that vice-gripped the bejeezus out of the average head....and you had to get the positioning just so or no bottom.

The T51p address and fix all of the shortcomings.....new flexible metal band, soft pads...and they are now just resting comfortably on the ears. Fit is similar to the KEF M500. The bass is present in the right quantity, slightly warm at times (probably recording dependent) midrange is now smooth, and the top has remained it's wonderful self....it all integrates seamlessly....oh, and they threw in lightning fast dynamics. Very rhythmic. That is the big thing I noticed.....the PRAT. I just grooved along to everything. The distinct character of each tune's recording seemed to ring true on the T51p. I think the wonderful treble extension is providing the grain-free timbre accuracy. The drivers must be perfectly matched because the imaging is perfectly focused and aligned. Yeah I like these

Very interesting. I've had both the T50p and DT1350 as well and neither quite floated my boat...

The links show the Beyer 1350 to be really close to ideal, but fit is touchy.

Perhaps, but since I was able to buy it for $110 new on the Best Buy auction site, I decided to be contented with the dt-1350 and perhaps velour pads from Adorama to replace the wizened chimp sacs that others are in the habit of calling pleather.

It'll be at least a year before the t51p becomes available for anything like that price, and I'd still have to pay to replace the pleather with velour.

Thanks for the impressions. What Hifi mag gave the T51p 5/5 and said it's the best sounding portable headphone.

WOW!
OK I may have to dump the dt1350 and grab some t51p !!
Comfort is the big one, but if the sound is improved as well I'm double sold! The design looks very similar though, are you sure its much more comfy? Can it be worn for hours without pain? The clamp would have to be much reduced along with much softer pads.

Also interested in those COP Tesla.

I still really like the T51p over a week later....good sign  These are waaaaay more comfy than the 1350.....those hurt! And the pads are soft, like the M500 (but not the same shape or material). And (with the 1350) you had to funnel the opening onto your earlobe to get any bottom end. The fit is about the same as the M500. It has a little more bass/lower mid warmth than the M500 but it is the midrange through the top treble that is so smooth and seamless and lacking in any sort of grain. I liken the sound to a Grado HP1000, and keeping the sense of timing and pace. The treble extension actually provides the warmth, where headphones that roll off suddenly after 10-12k have a tendency to sound a bit cold and grey. It can be heard as a laid back effect with some music but to my ears sound mostly accurate because some recordings sparkle and others do sound laid back.

So if you were to choice between M500 and T51p, which one sounds overall more pleasing personally to you?

+1. More comparisons wanted, Beagle, especially that you have so many portable phones.

I can't really answer that...it's a matter of personal taste. And there are things I like about both......but I would probably regret giving up the T51p more than the M500.
