Replacing my awesome Sota Sapphire: Clearaudio Concept or Performance DC

Dear All,

I am being forced to replaced my Sota Sapphire, because it doesn't match the room (guess whose decision that was).  I am going to purchase either the Concept of the Performance DC?  If the Concept is inferior to the Sapphire, than I clearly will not go that route.  Any insights would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I auditioned a Concept before getting my Sapphire, and felt the latter was clearly superior. Haven't heard the Performance DC, but you could reasonably expect it to be a better performer than the Concept - are you able to audition? A couple of other points: - how your Sapphire stacks up may (or may not) depend on what Series it is, as SOTA have incrementally improved motor quality, armboard 'performance' etc. - have you considered costing replacement cabinetry from SOTA? (different wood finish, or gloss black, depending on what the un-named decision-maker's preference is...). Price-depending, that could well tick both boxes - you keep your table of preference, and room-matching FTW...

The Sapphire is at least 20 years old, but the former owner upgraded the motor, and now the battery is external to the turntable.  I thought about modifying the outer rim, but I need a silver perimeter...thus, the Concept works.  My rack and amplifier are both silver.  Also, the current wood frame of the Sapphire 'clashes' with the other wood in the relevant room.

Unfortunately, I cannot audition the CA Performance.  There is a great stereo store where I live, but they don't stock Performances.

Thank you very much for your posts.
