Hope the one that was pictured is just a beta version/ prototype cuz if real. MAD DISAPPOINT.

Well, it's possible it'a an early demo unit. I hope they at least use black connectors and black or silver cable. As it stand now, if that's close to the complete look I'll rather go with the clear red VSD3, which initially looked a bit too flashy for my taste.

Anyway, I'm not super impressed with the looks - Vsonic's CEO claimed he spent more than $120k just for the housings and supposedly they were to be of high-end quality but these look like they were designed by Picasso and made of the cheap looking VSD1's plastic and the gr04's cable to complete the mismatched appearance. I prefer the simpler VSD1 design, so these better sound really good after that delay and the sub-par looks. Of course, it's possible that the model in the pictures is a prototype made from some of the materials they had lying around - VSd1's plastic and a gr04's cable, so the final design might look better.

And you think hiring Picasso would be cheap? ^-^ Anyway I love the desing, really cool but I agree, would look better with matte finish and OH GOD PLEASE NO MORE SOMIC SANS!

It's an engineering prototype of the VSD3. Here's a link to the following description:

Quote:

Translation:
The world's first engineering unit of the VSD3 is at Kaohsiung's Tsudar Electronics, expected to remain here for a week and available for audition to all those interested in listening!

An AndAudio.com moderator relayed his listening impressions:
"I recently heard the engineering unit of the VSD3 --- sound quality is good, similar to that of the SE535, with clear and bright treble, and slightly emphasized midrange; unfortunately, bass is a bit lacking, but for the price, the VSD3 is good value for money. It's worth noting that the VSD3 will probably hit the market within the next two months, and the packaging, as well as appearance, is no longer like the "Shanzai" style that we think of for Chinese products. Although the VSD3 has the angular look of a diamond-cut exterior, there is no discomfort while wearing it. The biggest drawback are the MMCX connectors, and even though they've sort of become a common fixture in the industry, they tend to have low cable pull rates and a tendency for failure. Coupled with the fact that most people buying <2K NTD earphones probably won't be purchasing aftermarket cables (lest they desire a remote control), the chances of people complaining about cable failure are high."

Hopefully there'll be some real user impressions on the difference between vsd3s and vsd3 soon.

Yeah, that one impression is, of course, not much to go on and seems kinda odd. If the VSD3 bass is "a bit lacking" then what would the VSD3S be like. I thought the "S" were less warm so if the regular one is bright and has less bass where do they go from there. Easy to be skeptical on the first ever impression of an engineering sample though.

Probably the only useful info so far is that a working pair actually exist and we might be in the home stretch portion of the wait for their release. Still a ways away from real world VSD3/VSD3S comparisions.

Could be the regular one is more midcentric with a warm tone and the VSD3S is v-shaped with a more neutral tone?

*crosses fingers*

I'm already happy with a mid-centric sound signature.  I'm interested again.

Gotta say, I'm not super-keen on their looks either. In fact, I can't really see me wanting to wear those out in public. And although that translated impression says they are comfortable, I'd be concerned about that.

Maybe I'll warm up to their looks. But at this point, yeah, they better sound really good for me to be interested.

READ MASA' WAYNE READ!!!

It seems that those pics are of the beta version/ prototype hence the finalized version MIGHT not look like those but more closely to the computer rendered picture that has the matte finish on them.

That would help. But I'm not sure I'm a fan of the overall diamond-like shapings. I'll wait for the production version though. Like I said, I might warm up to them.

Something tells me VSONIC is trying to ride the GR07's critical praise momentum with tons of hype and flashy looks.
While the design is tacky, fit looks like it would be better than most uni's. I'm more concerned with the crappy trend of mmcx cables. Ugh. I'm sure SQ will be up to the usual vsonics high standards though.
Really? I like the MMCX connector, it obviously has the potential to be more durable than the 2-pin design IMO; every time I pull the cable from my SM2 or TF10 I worry about breaking it, while my SE215 just feels solid as a rock.

Also prevents obsessive people like me from psyching ourselves out about whether our cables are in-phase or not, lol...

Yeah, you might be right about that. They will possibly be very nice fitting. Hmm, they are even starting to look a bit less tacky to me. Warming up to them already!

it's a little flashy, but looks great on for the masses. they could be aiming not just the audiophiles but also the masses. :) I don't care much about the looks though, as long as it keeps its promise to be on the same level of se535 or w4 I'll be really really amazed. hype hype hype mode on
