all those expecting this to be toppling gr07be,,,i wish u guys luck:rolleyes:

Well, people complained about the hype and wanted something more bashful, so I complied. Of course, I really have to spend more time with these and do a direct comparison with more similarly priced products coz right now I'm coming off straight from Noble 4 as my reference and with that mindset the vsd3s just didn't stand a chance.

Anyway, first impressions - no burn-in, no tip rolling and a very short audition.

Very spacious sounding - kinda makes the vsd1/s sound congested in comparison. Bass seems to be extending lower than with the vsd1s but is a touch softer on the impact. Quantity-wise probably a bit more than the 1s but I'll have to compare them these days coz I'm going by memory. Mids sound laid back unlike the 4r and se535. Otherwise, pretty smooth and neutral-ish. There seems to be a dip in the lower treble, which makes the vsd3s smoother and less offensive than most vsonics but makes the overall sound a bit hollow. Overall detail is nothing special probably because of the lack of emphasis in the upper mids-lower treble. The treble extends pretty well but there seems to be a big peak at 9-10k that boosts the shimmer a bit over the top.  Otherwise, as I said very spacious soundstage with good space between instruments and blacker background than the vsd1/s'.  I've heard the westone 4's quite a while ago but doesn't really remind me of it aside from probably the treble.

Sorry to hear that , hope you'll get well soon.

Thanks for the impressions .

Edit: Forgot to mentioned: you're spot on with "hollow". I think that's what I described as "artficial" before I got more used to it. Hollow seems more correct.

Don't get me wrong - the vsd3s is a very good iem. I just need to kinda clear my mind from the N4 and give it a proper audition after some burn-in and possibly with different tips coz I'm pretty sure I'm not getting optimal seal right now. So people shouldn't jump to conclusion just because I'm not mind-blown after 20 minutes of listening and right after I've listened to something that costs 10 times more.

take all the time u have but probability of getting blown from a sub 50$ iem is pretty small anyways especially when u are used to high end stuff

Nah, I don't get used to higher-end stuff - a couple of hours and I can listen objectively to anything. Now, I doubt anyone really expected the vsd3 to match with the best $400-500 iems but as I said these are definitely pretty good.

i am not going to 400$..............they will be hard pressed to best a re-400 at 100$,,if they do(which i doubt) i will be really surprised

Well, still haven't heard the re400, so can't compare them. The vsd3s is quite enjoyable to listen to actually. My main gripes in comparison to higher end stuff are that peak in the upper treble and the fact that despite being quite clear its detail retrieval isn't particularly impressive.

Your "detail retrieval" comment is disconcerting...

@kova =>>> Yes, like I stated 5 days ago when I got mine,it sounded same to me,just like to your ears, straight out of the box.......only thing is you have vsd1s and mine LE. But looks like all sounded in a similar manner.

Im still unamped, past 120hrs and this is still on its own course,no deviation,as far as the SPL.

Have a good one and take your time to get your ears back on it after 2-3 days(?)......

Nah, that comment was in comparison to high-end stuff. In reality the vsd3s is about on par to vsd1 and mh1 in that regard.

I haven't actually compared it to VSD1/S or LE properly. I just shoved the vsd1s in my ears and gave it 30 seconds of listening to get a general idea how the new "S" model stacks against the previous one. The first most audible thing is the difference in the soundstage size. Next is the lower treble and last is the peak in the upper treble. Of course, I'll let it burn-in  for a couple of days but I don't expect much change.  It's possible the bass might tighten slightly or the sound can open a bit more but burn-in isn't something that magically turns one iem into a completely different one.

Peter, one more thing, could you compare the VSD3s to the Philips fidelio S2 for me?

I'm thinking of grabbing a Fidelio S1 :o

Get well soon Kova4a! I'm looking forward towards more of your impressions!
