Earsonics SM2 vs SM3

Curious who out there has heard both of these. Also want to know if the SM2 uses the same/similar filter system as the SM3, and what it sounds like unfiltered if anyone has experimented with removing them

I've heard both. Hated the SM2 due to bloated midbass. Love the SM3 with filter, without filter was too shouty & reminded me of the asg-1.

Hmmm. Do you remember if the SM2 had filters? I loved the SM3 unfiltered, the mids were raw which is how I like them, but didn't seem quite as over the top as ASG-1 (original). That's what I really want to know: if I'll be able to unfiltered them and get a similar sound with similar but slightly less forward mids.

Is the SM3 bass really much tighter than SM2? if so I will probably look for something else...

The SM3 destroys it in the sub-bass & has minimal mid-bass bloat. The SM2 is what Rin would refer to as an abomination. Sloppy ugly bass.

Can't remember if it had a filter. Please save your money.

Seriously? They are only $180 though, and Joker rates them higher than the UM3X, which I have at the moment, and like, but don't love like I loved the SM3. I don't mind the midbass boost on my SE215, which some call bloated, so maybe I won't mind.

What would you recommend instead?

ARRRGH There is no universal IEM for me, I give up.  I will just get used to my SE215.

I really just want the damn SM3 without filters and not such a freaking weird soundstage and crappy build, but there is no such thing.

If I have to buy the SM64 to get what I want, I am going to ******* kill someone, because I won't do it.

I hate Earsonics. I really, REALLY do. I got addicted to the speed and tightness of unfiltered SM3s, it was positively ear-tickling, and now I can't find anything that will replace them, but I refuse to repurchase because of the durability vs cost and weird presentation.

I am truly screwed.

Anyone else out there who has heard both?

Sorry Gilly87, just saw your response. Quite honestly, Joker must have been smoking something or he did not adjust his score as he rated newer phones. The UM3x destroys the SM2. The other option is that mine was defective (maybe more likely than Joker hitting a bong...).

*shrug* He seems to think it shares most characteristics with the SM3, albeit with slightly looser bass and a less forward midrange.
