Yes it is, people here will tell you that you can drive it with less than what should actually be used. Ideally you want something like 250mw into 50ohms

Wow I just had this amazing idea, please tell me if it would work:

Maddog> AMP > Dac with coax or optical input > Optical to 3.5 mm jack converter or Coax to 3.5 mm converter > Astro mixamp

Please tell me if this could possibly work, because if it can I could just buy a DAC with coax and optical inputs and switch really easily via the DAC with just the press of a button. (Looking at the Bitfrost here).

This way I have 2 sources with gaming surround sound hooked up to audiophile grade DAC/AMP combo.

Now if it will even work at all is one thing but would it negatively affect soundquality by using optical to 3.5 mm/coax to 3.5 mm adapters? Will it the Bitfrost or any other DAC be useless in this chain?

bump, please tell me if my idea will work properly

Seriously, enough with the bumping.  This thread has 516 views, so it's getting read.  Bumping is just annoying, and actually prevents some people from responding.  They'll see the notification of an unread post in a thread they're following, and go to read it.  When it turns out to be just a bump, that's annoying.  They may not respond out of principle.

This thread is getting read.  Give it patience.
