Speaker Stands!

So what are the good/high value ones to get?

I'd like to stay under $100 if possible and absolutely positively under $150.

This would be to support bookshelf speakers. Possibly the Monitor Audio Bronze B2, the Paradigm Atoms or the NHT SB2's.

I use concrete blocks. You can buy these for $1.80 a block at Home Depot.



If you're into DIY, TNT-Audio has a few designs. I'm sure you could design and build your own that would work very well and cost very little.

Wow, that's an interesting idea though I don't think the concret blocks would work for me.

Not much of DIY'er. Would just like to get some mass-manufactured good value stands.

Check the ones I linked before at PartsExpress, those from Axioms IIRC are made of wood, the ones in PartsExpress are made of steel and weight much more....

the axiom stands can't even begin to compare. Not only do they not come spiked, but they also weight 1/5th the weight of the partsexpress stands. (5lbs vs 25lbs.) And you can mass load the partsexpress stands with leadshot or sand.

Will the 18" be high enough or will I need to go 24"?

That will depend entirely upon which bookshelf you choose and your seating height. You'll probably want to figure that out before settling on a stand height.

I have a pair, and their great. As far as height is concerned, you generally want the tweeters to be at ear level (24 in. most common).

I have NHT SB2, and if I am sitting at a somewhat "normal" height, 24" stands will be OK. Perhaps 26". I have Standesign BB-75 metal speaker stands that I purchased years ago from Audio Advisor for $80.00.

Soundboy how about the rigidness, are the stiff, or do they move laterally while you touch them, I had some of those similar in the past, that they are not that rigid, at least not rigid enough for the task while you touch the speakers, they move laterally ....
