Does Source Matter If You Have a DAC?

Thread Starter

My biggest worry is that once I purchase a DAC, either my MP3 player (Philips Go Gear Ariaz) or my really old computer ( Windows XP 2005) will hold back the sound quality of the music files. Do I have to worry about this, or will a DAC such as a MODI, override the sound card of the computer and MP3 player.

This would help relieve some anxiety. redface.gif

Set up correctly, the old computer shouldnt have any problems or hold back the system.

Your computer already has a built in soundcard which includes a DAC. You would be upgrading to a standalone soundcard which would completely bypass the integrated unit so the computer no longer has any influence on the sound quality of your music (as long as you don't have EQ settings in use).
