If that's your budget go for it,or save up for Pro 900s,XB1000s,or M-100s You can (Maybe not the Pro 900s,idk) get all of those for around 300. I have the M-100s and love them, very strong bass. Overall 3 times better than pros. I can finally hear ALL the electronic sounds in dubstep. MUCH more comfortable. And the bass has more impact.

SoundMagic HP100 for $200.  Much better than all the versions of Beats I've heard (haven't listened to Solo) and less costly.  Good low frequency response, seriously extended bottom end with fairly flat mid to high response.  Does not feel as durable as the Beats though.  Not a great soundstage (but most closed cans don't feature this) though none of the Beats have any soundstage unless the stage is under water.

I'd just get the Beat's, you seem like your pretty set on them and then when you get something better you can probably sell them for more than you paid, the 580's are "better".

You could also get some V-moda LP2's

Anyone else?

Studio Beats have way better bass than Pros and a nice soundstage. Studio Beats nnot very durable though, I've broken 3 pairs pretty easily.Beats Pro bass didn't impress me much. V-Moda Crossfade LP2 had bass and nothing else, but not as much as Beats Studio. 580's are nowhere in the conversation unless you have a headphone amp.

Under $160 though? Have to say go with the Pros.

Beats Pro for 160, id get it. They arnt great and over valued for their MSRP, but for 160 they are great value. I'd get the Beats.

At least the 580's or V-Modas wont break, and if you think the LP2's have "bass and nothing else" then get the M-100's

What about the Denon urban ravers?

I've had shorts in cables for all my V-Modas except the 100's. The M 80's also had a short in the ear where the cable connected. Haven't had the 100's that long and haven't used them much so can't really say if the cabling is still dodgy or not.

 i'm really tough on headphones.
