Please help me find the right pair of headphones!

Hi so I'm sort of new at this and after searching for many hours on the internet I haven't found one pair that stands out to me. This would be my first pair of nice headphones so I am by no means an audiophile. I really liked two AKG headphones (the K550 and K495NC) however, the 550 have a nondetachable cord which I didn't like and its waaay too long, and the 495s are on-ear which I would like to avoid. Basically, the 495s would have been perfect if only they were over ear. I really liked the style of both however. I've listed some factors that I'm trying to take under consideration and I really appreciate any suggestions!

Price range: up to $300

Main use: travel & home listening/ mainly music, sometimes movies

Music I listen to (if this matters): Hip-hop, Reggae, Ska, Alternative, and Electronic (actually most genres just not country and classical)

Specifications:

Over Ear

stylish (although not as important as sound quality, this matters to me and I tend to like the more minimalistic designs)

Doesn't have to be NC but closed back and sealed sound is a must

Preferably foldable or easily carried

Thanks for your response but those are above my price range ($345 on amazon)

UE6000's Tyle at innerfidelity kicked the AKG550 off of his wall of fame for these, but then he did knock thos off for the momentums for best closed headphone, but the UE's are only $200, you could also look at the Shure SRH-840's

Another vote for the Momentum. You can find them in mint condition here used.

UE over K550 is just the price to performance ratio eh? I personally do not think the UE can beat out the K550 when both are at the same price range unless you are looking for A-NC.

For some ears size, Momentum can feel more like a on-ear than a over-ear because of it's small circumference size. Otherwise, it's a pretty good headphone and very attractive looking.

Hello!

If you like the AKG K550, you should like the PSB M4U1! It share very similar sound to the K550; wide soundstage(for closed), imaging, detailed, natural and neutral. However, PSB offer a foldable design and detachable cable as well as a portable carrying case included! XD it is a very nice headphone for both reference and on the go.

Hope this help!

The momentum is slightly above my price range and the only thing about the 550s is that the chord is soo long, they're not good for travel. Are the AKG 495 any good? I'm not thrilled about the on-ear design so I was also looking at the Bose Quiet Comfort 15 but I wasn't crazy about the look of them. Any more suggestions?

I know these have been recommended to death but the m50 are really good for those genres. They're aggressive and the extra bass really gives electronic that "oomph" to it. Just don't expect to hear all the details of a song right away. At first I couldn't tell the difference between them and some of my cheap IEMs but I eventually grew to appreciate them a lot more.

The 550's sort of have a weird tinny harsh treble peak where the UE's are more balanced, the 550's probably resolve a little more detail but like I said there $100 more. With the NC on the UE's are very bass heavy but with it off they are a very balanced headphone.

The bestbuy by me has open box momentums for $297, you just have to look around, even a used pair isn't going to be more than 6 months old sense they just came out. The Shure SRH-840/940's are also good but very bass light to me, but I like bass.

If that is the case, to for the AKG K551! It's the same thing as K550 but with shorter cord (1.2m), different color

Only thing about the 551s is that the cable jack prevents them from plugging it in an iphone with virtually any casetriportsad.gif so thinking about getting the 495...any experience with these/especially the comfort?
