I'm getting these lovely headphones. Which DAC and Amp would you guys recommend? My budget is around 300-400 euro for new or second hand. Anybody tried these with Burson HA-160D?

I'm leaning towards Modi and Vali right now by the way :-)

I personally would skip the modi. The bass of the modi to me was rolled off or soft or something. I liked the vali.

I will be using the Nuforce ha-200 with these and I think they will be a good match. The new Nuforce Icon DAC is pretty powerful and is a DAC/AMP that is cleaner sounding, more powerful, more punchy, but a bit brighter than the vali. Its actually a really good sounding piece of gear and why I immediately decided to go for the ha-200. These may benefit from a bright, strong solid state amp though. Another option if you have desktop real estate to spair would be the emotiva mini x a 100 with speaker taps. I had this before with it and it sounded reallly good. But with that I wouldnt know what DAC to get cause the modi didnt go well with it.

How do these compare to K550?

Thanks for your input!

I'm looking at the new Matrix M-Stage HPA-2, you know that one? It also has preamp which is a plus for me and it will cost me 240 euro shipped at my door and no worries about custom fees. Will it drive the ZMF good?

Perhaps some Mad Dog owner knows more. If it drives the Mad Dog well, it will also be a good match with the ZMF.

Or maybey the answer is already in this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/683118/mr-speakers-mad-dog-3-0-3-2-amp-pairing-recommendation-discussion-thread

(Y) Thanks I will take a look. I know that the Mad Dogs and Paradox work well with the Schiit Vali/Modi.

Decisions, decisions... :D

On a brighter note I just ordered my ZMF (package 3)!

Can't order that one in Europe and with the custom fees it will be out of my price range. Really want something up to 300 euro delivered :-)

I've wanted to give that or the NFB 28 a try for quite some time.  Heard good things...!

The nfb 12 is affordable and powerful but not recommended. I liked the 11.32 a lot more. Neither the most musical but the 11.32 has a tight and clean sound that I think would go well with the zmf.

Probably a good partner/contrast to the slightly "syrupy" quality of the LYR.
