If Ragnarok will sounds like perfection, then I would buy it even if sold like below:

From what I can see, I am quite certain that unit is remote-controllable ,p

Woo Audio WA5 doesn't have a remote and cost over twice as much. I don't see many people complaining of a lack of a remote.

That said, yeah I'd enjoy a remote but I don't have to have a remote.

There is a member in the DNA Stratus thread running his Stratus off of his preamp to get remote control.

Woo Audio will build you one of you just ask. And pay, of course ;-)

I see it as a headphone amp that also happens to power speakers, which I believe is how Schiit envisioned it.  As such, I don't need a remote control since it will be on or near the desk/table where I would be listening, especially if it complicates the build enough to either impact performance or price.

I agree w/ Greed and Fraggler-this is a headphone amp first and foremost. As such, it's gonna stay as simple as possible. I never once used the remote on my Master 8-but then again it couldn't power speakers either.

I think we are not taking Schiit serious enough if we define Ragnarok as a headphone amp. I am sure they wouldn't add the speaker option unless it was very good as a standalone speaker amp.

I hope this will be like the SS version of the Leben CS300/600, doing stellar on both headphones and speakers. I wouldn't be surprised if they have plans to make more speaker amps in the future... d^^b

Yeah, but they are a Headfi sponsor, not say, Avsforum. Their demographic is 99% headphone users. That said-I'm glad it can run speakers too!

Knowing Jason, we can be sure all forms of output will be primo. I will be listening to it via 16 ohm 112dB IEMs to 300 ohm 102dB full sizers to 8 ohm 92dB large bookshelves when I test.

So are the prices fixed now? I remember in the initial PDF, the amp was suggested anywhere from $1400-1600. At a show recently, it was displayed at $1500. I don't remember seeing anything about the DAC though.

DAC is expected to ring up at about $1700-1800, the amp seems to be stabilizing at $1500, yes.

The Ragnarok was to be Schiit's endgame headphone amp, so that is what I consider it.  That doesn't mean that I don't think the speaker outs will be good.  In fact, I expect them to be great if they are included in an end game product.  I don't have a lot of money to spend on any more audio gear, but because I take Schiit and their abilities seriously, I could see myself getting a Ragnarok and calling it an amplifier day for both headphone and 2 channel.

Schiit, in their About Us section on their website has already said they plan to make dedicated 2-channel products, so you can definitely expect to see something more from them in the future that might be what some of you are hoping for as far as an integrated goes.

On an unrelated note, the excellence of the Vali with my HD800s has me thinking I will wait for the hybrid version of the Ragnarok.

Inorite? That's pretty awesome when you think about it.

$1500 for the Rag, $1900 for the Yggi last we heard.

I am assuming that at that price, the DAC will have USB included, without having to select it as an upgrade option like with Bifrost and Gungnir. It'd be interesting to see how it racks up against BDA-2 and NAD M51 in performance. Hopefully both the amp and DAC will be something in the middle with lots of transparency that will match a bunch of things. Kind of like a BHA-1.

So the tube version will probably be scheduled for 2014 Q3/Q4?

I'd add that I believe the target was a headphone amp that will drive ANY (non 'stat) headphone and desktop speakers.  One post, Jason mentioned using Mini Maggies as at least one of the desktop speaker systems in the development.
