New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil - Page 154

Blind tests aside, it's going to cost you just a bit more than $2 if you want that IC to be a functional device.

DAC's are a solved problem, it's been proven time and time again that a $2 IC can sound just as neutrally transparent as a $2k+ Boutique DAC in blind tests.

Yet no matter what, people will always want to think there is better sound out there.

Just for the record, nothing has been proven.  Strong indication, yes.  Proven- no.

So if you're not immune to the Placebo, then it must work on you, right? So you believe that it makes a difference, hence it does.

Human Logic is a problem, please read what  Jason Stoddard said "When the products are released, they'll have full specs. Which will pretty much have nothing to do with the way they sound."

Also, I dare you do some Blind Testing on things other than Audio, I dare you, I double dare you.

I posted this a while ago, but it seems relevant again...

Not so much.

I just appreciate the engineer/work that goes into PROPERLY designed audio gear, even if it doesn't sound better, I like knowing that it objectively is better then another piece of gear.

This is what appeals to me regarding Schiit's design and engineering focus, and honestly Jason's story no doubt helps solidify in my mind that I bought a quality and innovative product in a sea of buzzword compliance and fancy mediocrity.

Now to speak objectively of how Schiit sounds, of course, is of my own device wink.gif

Yeah, that makes it two of us. Fair's fair though...why stray from core competency. Imagine if Beats made a DAC/Amp !!

In quiet preparation for the Ragg, i just placed an order for the He-6. With speaker adaptors.

What for? It has been said not once, the speaker terminals provide the same output as the balanced output on the front.

I missed that fact. But anyway i'll still need it so i can compare it to my NAP250

amp at home. I haven't decided which i want to keep in my study and living room. If i use the ragg in the living room - which i suspect i might end up doing - the 250 will be relegated to the study to do headphone duty. Overkill, but better than just having it sit on a shelf.

I would better use the speaker terminals for what it was meant  for.

It's a really long story - basically i have one Naim 250 amp sort of left over and really need don't have the space for a pre/power stack in my living room setup. I've had an itch for a 6 for sometime now but have no idea how it's work with the 250. So there i was looking for an int. amp when i found Jason's post about the ragg's release.

If the ragg doesn't surpass my ancient 250, i can just use it as a headphone amp in my study. If it does, it will replace the pre/power amp and move the latter into my study.

I see a lot of fear, uncertainty, doubt in your words :D

Based on Schiit Lyr (From my personal experience) at $450 I was comparing it head-to-head vs Leben CS600 in a local meet I organized a little while back. Leben CS600 ($5000 or so) is also a tube (but not hybrid) but also a speaker amp, and while people really love it for its warmth, and I can clearly say that Leben CS600 was warmer and perhaps a little more lush, Lyr was very close to it.

Schiit can pull this one, Mjolnir has been compared to dedicated headphones amp such as Bryston BHA-1 at about double the price of the Mjolnir, best bang for buck would be Mjolnir, for some even better than Bryston BHA-1 (I bet i'd fall in this category, since I don't like the "Treble Extension" that BHA-1 provides...)

I don't doubt for a second that Ragnarok wouldn't eat every other amp available today in terms of ultimate fidelity. Sure you could get a different sound signature from other products... Actually high-end is mostly a fight for different sound signature. But if engineering plays a role at all, Schiit got it nailed.
