New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil - Page 151

Did a little research on the Ygg and its 30 pound dac and concentrated on power. No doubt it will be an outstanding dac. Atleast on paper.

Hopefully it will be release within beggining of July like Jason said earlier. There are so many good dacs out there nowadays, many will just move on to buying another dac if they have to wait even a single day. Many just dont have the patience with so many options out there.

I really like the look of the ping-pong ball knob on the Vega, but at twice the price of the Yggy, no thanks.

You can get 1 for about 2,500 in used market nowadays. It has analog preamp function with remote using femtro clock qnd upsampling feature etc... all in all great reviews from just about everywhere.

I realize this is schiitts first journey into mid-fi and hifi territory.. and there are some good competition in this price range. It will be interesting how schiit will hold up..

The Raggnorak have mixed reviews so far from what I read. Hopefully the final version will be good.

Where are the mixed reviews? The only negative reviews I have read were of an early pre-production model which Schiit admitted was probably not quite working as intended.

"Translation: many people treat a high-priced audio product order as a life-sustaining, critical event on par with getting their great-grandmother's oxygen tank delivered on time."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA… sputter, cough, ack…

So true…  It would seem as though we who are the hobbiest's (that's us, the customer) take this all WAY more seriously than those who are in the business (that's the audio industry) do.

Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Just an excuse. They make a living doing this. Not us.

Thats the reality ladies and gents.

I was talking about Ragnarok. We have not set a firm release date for Yggdrasil.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if the timeline and feature set do not work for you, or you find our delays or other business practices unacceptable, there are plenty of other products out there.

Have fun, and I hope you find a product that meets your needs perfectly!

I was hoping early July release for Ygg. Thanks for info and goodluck on your products.

Don't sweat it, Jason. I've waited a couple years for this tandem of statement products. I can wait a few more months (and so can everyone else). smily_headphones1.gif

+1. Innovation takes time and is full of the unexpected.

To design and deliver on time is easy if you only do the same old thing!

To date I've never really *liked* a Schiit product (the Vali is pretty cool, though my audition was too short), but I'm incredibly curious about the Yggdrasil...

I can definitely wait because there is nothing out there like it for the price. Go ahead and buy another dac if you can't wait. As for me (and probably quite a few like me), I don't think schiit has to worry about us moving on.

When it comes to Schiit's pronouncements that there will be no "super-statement" products after/above Rag/Ygg, I wonder.

Somehow I can't see Jason and Mike just kicking back and calling it a day. Not only do they impress me as the types who always have something new cooking in the back room, but in neglecting the conventional high-end market they are leaving a lot of money on the table.

Problem is, for many audiophiles Schiit gear is simply too cheap to be taken seriously. Not to mention the company name.

So I wouldn't be surprised to see the dynamic duo quietly start a new company with a more prestigious-sounding appellation (Atelier Merdee, perhaps?) pedaling flashier and much more expensive gear to those with more money than sense of humor. That way, they do keep their promise to us Head-Fiers, while still being able to innovate and cash in. And best of luck to them, I say.

Remember, you read it here first...

Not gonna happen.

See the post above about audiophila nervosa increasing exponentially with cost. We're here to have fun, not serve as proxy psychologists. Low-cost products are fun. High-cost products tend to attract the nutters who need 2 hours of phone time per day to help justify their purchase.

We don't give one single schiit about what some self-appointed Keepers of What Is Right and Pure think about our prices or our name. They're losing out. But we're winning by not having them as customers. As I've told the press more than once, the name is an excellent "butthead filter." If someone doesn't have a sense of humor, they're probably not going to consider our products. And that, believe me, is absolutely fine by us.

There will be nothing above Ragnarok and Yggdrasil. Period.

Nor another company making overpriced "audiophile jewelry." Period.

Clear?

Kudos to you and Mike. A refreshingly different stance on all things Audio and Hi-Fi! Sadly rare...
