New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil - Page 135

IMO, when some people trash-talk gear they haven't heard it's because the price is more than they could afford.  So it's automatically "over priced" or "not worth it" or "product X costs half as much!" because they are jealous.  They can't afford it, they wish they could, so it's not worth the price and those who CAN afford it are fools for wasting their money.  It's one of the sillier things that happens on audio forums.  If you can't afford something, there is nothing wrong with that and it's no reason to snipe at those who can.  I can't afford to buy Burmester amps.  But I'd love to try them and I don't slag those who can, I admire them.

Sorry, stepping off my soapbox now and returning this thread to its original topic.

I agree it is a silly looking piece of kit. But I've heard it in non-meet conditions, and I can attest that the sound is pretty amazing. There is a bit of over-hype happening in the Chord Hugo thread, but there are also plenty of established Head-Fiers over there discussing the product's merits. Oh, and they've heard it.

Cost is always a factor in any audio choice so one should always weigh price to performance ratio.

This is somewhat true, however, there's also this trend of 'experienced ears' who think they can judge

a piece of gear within 5 minutes of hearing it, so things get written off rather quickly.

Should always? thats funny, should that be an ALWAYS case?

Once you go into high-end hobby, it is a niche market that personal preference weight more then anything else, while one might use price performance as his or her factor, others might not adopt that as a criteria at all.

By the way, can we leave Hugo discussion where they belong, and get back on the Schiits.

Here come June, and first batch Lyr2 has been on market already, so it about time to see Jason's NEXT step, .... do we hear the footstep already?

Oh yea, that's another silly thing that happens.  I'm talking about people who have never heard something at all and are only judging based on price, but there is also what you describe: the self-appointed golden-ear experts who hear something once at a trade show or in a store for two minutes under far from good conditions and decide it either "sucks" or is "astounding" immediately.  Those opinions are equally dismissible as the ones who have never heard it at all, IMO.

It would be great if this thread would get back OT.  Just saying.

You mean back to speculating about a product set that has yet to be released, meaning none of us could possibly have anything meaningful to say about them?  OK, sure.  You start.  :)

Ragnarok operates in class A, when used with headphones?

Ragnarok can output 100W into 4 ohms off its speaker terminals.

So I suppose it operates in class A when using headphones?

To be honest - even though I don't particularly like the look of the Hugo (In Pictures) I have only heard great things about it's sound. A lot of people who know there Schiit think its great so maybe on this one the hype is deserved.

If need be, yes.

There are people that have listened to it. (The Rag). I'm not one of them. I'd rather hear about it and any meaningful info regarding it than people bickering about pricing of other gear versus value. :-)

I'm curious, in which situation would it shift into a different class?
