The ability to drive speakers is a nice plus for the far off day I decide to "grow up" from headfi and dive down the other transducer rabbit hole.

I just got mine and they are black : ] ADs are endgame closed headphones IMO and I've heard the LCD-XC. I am in awe by the tightness of the bass that doesn't bleed into the mids or the highs. They approach the LCD-2 in terms of bass quality and quantity but slightly more polite and balanced.

I'm very eager for impressions on the Ragnarok. I'm looking ahead to powering balanced HD800 and the general consensus seems to be that the Mjolnir is too "bright" and "edgy" for the HD800, so I wonder how the Ragnarok will fare in that respect.

We're all hoping it will be on par with GSX Mk2 or at least B22 :).

It better beat a B22. It's rare that amplifiers are obsoleted, but I don't feel the B22 is worth building anymore. It just isn't very good compared to modern commercial offerings.

I'll be posting some early impressions this weekend. My work schedule has been rather unforgiving since its arrival, but I've been enjoying the heck out of the Ragnarok whenever I can sneak listening time in. And, yes, it's outstanding with the HD 800. Here's a short, related chat dialog with Jason about it a few days ago:

Quote:

5:54 PM Jude: With the OPPO PM-1 (balanced), sounds fantastic. Have to go grab my HD 800..she's a tough match.

7:18 PM Jude: And it's awesome with the HD 800, too. I wasn't sure it would have enough power. ;)

7:23 PM Jason: LOL! Glad to hear it works well--I spent most of the dev time on the hd800s, since they are always the most challenging.

More later, guys, as I have to run right now.

well, there goes $1700 out of my wallet...

funny that jude didn't think it would have enough power for the hd800. balanced, doesn't the rag put out 15W?? :basshead:

edit: i just saw that it puts out 1.6W into 300 ohms...still, that should be plenty.

@Jason Stoddard so when do you expect pre-orders to open up for the Rag? i think you have a long queue of people with open wallets wanting to give you money...

I doubt he's going to allow a pre-order after all the trouble that caused in the past.

so he'll just take orders when they're actually ready to ship? that's fine by me. i think he said there would be around a 2-3 week lead time for each rag since each will be BTO. but i'm sure he has a bunch ready to go...or is getting a bunch ready to go.
